Do all Collaborators need to subscribe to Creative Cloud to co-work with InDesign?

Can my client subscribe to InDesign only and collaborate on an InDesign project with me through a link that I share through the Creative Cloud?

One option would be to explore InCopy which is designed for collaboration workflows with InDesign.

So with InCopy my client would not need to buy the InDesign app (subscription)?

This sounds like a PERFECT solution. We don't want him messing with paragraph styles, fonts, and all. We just want to allow him to make editorial corrections and alterations.

That's my reading of it.

Designers work in InDesign. Editors/content writers work in InCopy and can work remotely.

Designers allocate InDesign "assignments" and export .icma and .icml files to InCopy editors/writers. Seems that both can work simultaneously on the same file (as I would expect). Looks fairly sophisticated so it would be great if it works as advertised.

I would very reluctant about handing my work over to the client in InDesign. That's a recipe for problems. It might be best for your client to edit the original file in MS Word or Google Docs. Then you can copy & paste the revised text into your InDesign layout.

Yes certainly. Wheather that can happen in real time I have no idea.

But to save your Client some money just make a PDF of whatever design you are creating for tham and sent them that. They can then contact you with suggestions and or changes they want to make. No need for them to subscribe to anything and incure an additional cost for them.

The client is publishing an autobiography of over 1000 pages. It requires intensive proofreading and too many edits to rely on marginal comments/annotations.

We decided he should subscribe to InDesign so that he can edit the text as he finds errors. The question is... Can we collaborate on the document if he subscribes to InDesign alone?

If by that you mean that you both have the same document open at the same time to edit in real time... no

You will have to...

A - put the file on a server and ONE of you copy to your computer to edit and then put back on the server

or

B - email the file back and forth
