How can I view psd files in Explorer?

If you mean you're trying to view PSD thumbnails in File Explorer in Windows 10 then Windows cannot do this natively.

However, you can add third party extensions, such as SageThumbs, to enable it.

I use this:

https://mysticcoder.net/mysticthumbs

Edit: I see it is now a subscription.  It was a one time fee when I purchased MysticThumbs.

Use Adobe Bridge for viewing files.  It's free.

https://www.adobe.com/products/bridge.html

To view PSD & AI thumbnails in Windows File Explorer, you'll need a shell extension like this one by SageThumbs (also free).

You did not say that you need help opening the files in Photoshop... you said [Microsoft] Explorer

You need to ask Explorer questions at the link I provided

If you need help with Photoshop, say that and someone will move this message to that forum

@Daniel Gullo, PhD,

At the risk of being pedantic, I'll just add that the OP's question was poorly stated as "Explorer" can mean different things to different users.

For example:

1. Windows File Explorer.

2. MS Internet Explorer.

3. MS Edge (formerly called Internet Explorer).

4. Explorer apps on Google Play Store.

5. ExplORer app on Apple Store.

6. Multi-device App Explorer by SweetLabs.

Photoshop is an app available for Win/Mac or iPhone.  But PSD is a filetype along with PSDT, PSB, BMP, JPG, PNG. GIF, WEBM, and many more...

Confusion reigns when users are not specific about which devices/OS they're using and what they're looking for.   We're not psychics.  We're all human product users with diverse language & cultural backgrounds doing the best we can to field questions posted by other product users.

Since you're new here, I invite you to read the Adobe Support Community Guidelines below.

Thank you, you understood my question. I presume this means I have to download another program? Thank you again and for the suggestion.

Yes, because Windows does not offer this functionality.

SageThumbs is a small utility app and its free. Many people download little utility apps to give them functionality not found in Windows.

Thank you, I don't want to have a subscription, for another program, I already pay monthly for Adobe. However I appreciate the suggestion.

I have used Bridge in the past, but I want to go my usual way of accessing files. You also suggest the same program, I did look online before asking here, and saw that this particular program causes problems? Could you assure me it's OK please?

SageThumbs poses no problems whatsoever for me on Win10 with latest updates.  I've been using it for several years ever since Windows stopped rendering thumbnails.

Bridge is still a superior image viewer though.  When I need to find a file quickly, I use Win Explorer but when I need to closely examine a folder of images or add metadata, keywords, etc... Bridge is preferred.  Different tools for different tasks.

Being a hobbyist, I just need to preview the files, Bridge wan't quick enough for me, having to open another program to see my files. As I replied to John Waller, and also your suggestion, I will get my son to download the program to enable me to preview the files. Thank you.

Got any links to what you've been reading? The web is awash with positive and negative reviews on almost everything. I try and take a balanced view and try it out for myself.

SageThumbs has worked fine for me too. I only need it for thumbnails in Explorer. No issues to date. I rarely use Bridge but as @Nancy OShea says, different tools for different tasks.

Sorry no links, never thought about it. However you all know what your talking about, so I will take your advice and download SageThumbs as suggested.

Keep looking for another way out, I may be back!

Thank you all, I can't wait to get previewing my files. Especially as I always forget what I named them! To find them I usually put Explorer in date order, it helps, but not a lot!
