I want to show off my images without having to clutter them up with watermarks or by making them too low res to be viewable. Is there a way to make our image files be protected from downloads?

That is extremely weak as a form of protection. Anyone with the slightest motivation WILL be able to preserve copies of everything in your portfolio.

Hi @ECHE LON,

That's a myth.  Nothing protects online content.  If you don't want people to take your images, DO NOT publish them on the web.

Owing to how the Internet works, images are automatically downloaded into the end user's browser cache when they visit your site. Also anybody can grab a screenshot if they have a mind to.

Disabling right-click is the single WORST thing you can do to your website.  It protects nothing.  It annoys users by disabling advanced browser navigation features.  Don't do this.

If you're really serious about protecting content, put it behind password protection.  Consider using digital watermarking or barcoding which is invisible to humans.  There is a Digimarc plugin for Photoshop described below.

What if you want to download your own images from your portfilio site?

I've accidentally deleted files I have uploaded to my Portfolio website and want to save, I'm allowed up until a point, ie. I can click save as, enter name, click save, but then it gives an error in download dialog saying 'needs permission to download'.

I've disabled right click, where can I give permission to users of my site to download images? Is this possible?

"Disabled right-click," is easily defeated by anyone with a mind to do so.  It's nothing more than a useless annoyance.

Remove it from Settings > Site Options.

https://help.myportfolio.com/hc/articles/360037931574-Disabling-right-click

In Firefox, go to Tools > Page Info > Media tab.

You'll see a complete list of images from that page.

   Location: URL

   Type:

   Size:

   Dimensions:

   Alternative text:

Repeat with other site pages.

Hope that helps.
