acsm files do not load in Adobe Digital Editions

acsm files are opening in Adobe Acrobat and not in Adobe Digital Editions.  When I go to change the default program and locate the exe file it does not add it to the default programs list so I can select it.

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?
