ADE doesn't recognize Sony Reader in Mac OS 10.5 after Sony EBL 3.0 update

I've got a PRS-505, and I just put Sony eBook Library 3.0 on my Mac laptop running Leopard 10.5, but Adobe Digital Editions still won't recognize the Reader when I plug it in.

I've tried deauthorizing the computer and the device, and reinstalling ADE. The Reader works with eBook Library, and it still works with ADE on my old Windows machine.

But, whenever I plug in my Reader on the Mac, it gets recognized by EBL but not ADE. Nothing happens in ADE.

Any help would be appreciated.

i had the same problem with my mac, it was not recognized by ADE and when y tried to transfer an epub it gave the message my reader was authorized to another user, wich it not true, this is what i did to resolve

    Hard reset my PRS700

uninstall ADE ( deauthrize computer first Command + Shift + D)

    uninstall EBL 3.0

delete all my ebooks downloaded from sony

    delete all my borrowed books

    reinstall EBL 3.0

authorize my computer and reader on my sony account

redownload borrowed ebooks (using the same adobe account of course)

try to transfer the books using the EBL 3.0 from sony

it asked me for my adobe ID

and it worked for me! =D

i think there may be a conflict between the sony software and ADE

    WYGIT -

You are a saint for posting this solution!  Thanks a million.  I'm about to finish up a book now, and will try this next week.  Thanks again!

Hey, I had seen this thread, and another similar one, as the ONLY info

on the problem, and people were getting shuffled back and forth

    between the two companies.

I'm still waiting for Adobe to fix it, because it will mean I can dump

the Sony software again and go back to Calibre.

(which I like a lot better, and it's open source.)

I still don't really TRUST Sony with an app that talks to their

servers, after the fiascos with the rootkits on CDs a few years back.

I do like being able to check books out of the library...that's just

    COOL!

    YEAY!

I just got the solution (that worked for me, anyway) from a Sony support rep. No PC or VMWare needed.

OK, you've installed Sony eBook Library v3, and Adobe Digital editions, you've set up your acocunts and authorized your computer on both of them, and you've authorized your Reader with the Sony Library application.

You go to the public library ebook download page, either through the Sony Library or just through a bookmark.

You check out a book, and open it in Adobe Digital Editions, which still won't recognize your Reader.

BUT, in the Sony Library app, you can now click "File, Import.." and go find the pdf you downloaded with the Adobe app.

On my Mac, it was in ~/Documents/Digital Editions

Import it, and drag it to your Reader.

The first time you do this, it will ask you to authorize the Reader with your Adobe ID.

    Worked like a charm.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  I have been on the phone for 3 hours between Adobe, Sony, and Mac trying to find someone who had a solution to this problem...and in the mean time was trying to find the solution online!  It worked, and I can finally go to bed and curl up with my book!!! You ROCK!!!

The response from Sony was certainly better than the one from Adobe, which I just received:

    ************************

Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support and letting us handle
your issue. I am responding in reference to your web request posted on
08/30/2009 wherein you inquired about plans from Adobe to start
supporting Sony Reader on Apple Macintosh and also do apologize for the
delay in responding to your case.

Michael, let me inform you that there is no official announcement from
Adobe in this regard. I do take this opportunity to thank you for your
interest in Adobe products and would suggest you to continue visiting
our forums and website for latest news.

I hope this answers your question.

Can I use EBL to transfer a book checked out out from the library (in DRM PDF format)?  Does anyone know if Adobe plans to get current with support for Mac?   Their fallback line was "we don't support the eReader for Mac because Sony doesn't", but that doesn't hold true any longer.

It is expected that ADE will not recoginize Sony Readers on Mac, use EBL instead for transfering content.

OK. Are there any plans to allow ADE to work with the Reader on Mac?

    August 28, 2009

There is nothing that has been announced.
