When I go to the Bluefire Reader on my iPad, it kept asking me to "authorize this device with an Adobe ID," so I kept signing back in with my Adobe ID and password. But now I'm getting a message that says "This ID has been authorized too many times," and it won't give me access to the books in my library.

Adobe DRM is a complete pain.
Your next step is to contact Adobe Live Chat: http://www.adobe.com/support/chat/ivrchat.html and ask them to reset ALL your authorizations.
You will then have to reauthorize the devices you still want.
However, if the Bluefire/AdobeDRM combination is misbehaving that way you'll soon get back to the same problem.
I've had Bluefire running on a borrowed iPad without too many issues, but that may be because I hardly ever use it,
I prefer a much lighter 5" eReader; it doesn't hith my wrists and doesn't hurt so much when I fall asleep reading and drop it on myself.
