I have been using Digital Editions for a long time and now all of a sudden books aren't showing up in my DE library. I know I have several in there. I tried to dl a new book and it checks out of the public library OK but doesn't get fulfilled and show up in my DE library.
I am using a Windows 7 laptiop and started trying to figure this out by restarting the laptop. Didn't help. Then I uninstalled DE 4.5 and downloaded it again and installed it again ibut still no books. DE says it is authenticated on this computer and has worked fine for me for the last year or so without problem.
What gives?
I'd appreciate any and all help with this issue. This is a program I use every day.
Closed Digital Edition.
Rename My Digital Edition in My Digital Edition.old under My Documents.
Restart Digital Edition.
Open the eBook again.

I'm experiencing the same problem as you did, but with Windows 10. It worked perfectly after installing the update a few days ago, but now nothing populates in my Library. I tried the fix that worked for you, but no change -- still an "empty" Library, although there should be several ebooks in it. Can anyone suggest other things to try?

Since the last update ADE does not "see" any of my previously downloaded
books anymore. When I doubleclick the file-icon of one of those previously
read books in my "downloads-folder", and also when I open that file in ADE
by "open with" mode, an empty ADE window appears and that's all.
So for now I am unable to transfer any newly-purchased book to my Koba
ereader. I did execute already, by the way, your suggestion to someone else
in this chat to ad ".old" to one of the program folders within ADE.
But as yet nothing works and I cannot read my just-purchased book.
What to do?

What happens exactly:
When I double-click (in the window of my "downloads" folder) the icon
of a downloaded book, ADE opens with an empty library. Strange, because I
did open some five ebooks over teh last few months. Anyway, now EDE
remains totally empty: not showing the ebook I double-clicked and unable
to show any of the books that I processed by ADE in previous,months.
If then, in the same still open (and still empty) ADE I try "add to
library" this same ebook from my downloads-folder, a pop-up appears with
the message "ADE4.5.1 has stopped working". I find no additional message
that might explain *why *ADE stopped.
When I open ADE anew (so aftee closing the ADE-window in which I worked
here-above) by double-clicking its icon on my desktop ADE opens quickly and
empty. When I try to "add to library" as describe here-above, I get the
same pop-up "ADE 4.5.1 has stopped working".
In "my documents" I renamed the folder "my digital editions"several
times. As a result, I have presently in my documents four subfolders for
"my dig editions" with the following names (given by me):
"my digital editions old1" modified 28-3-2016
contains nine ebook files (oldest 8-feb, most recent 28-mar 19:14) plus the
folders "Tags" "Annotations" "Thumbnails" "Manifest"
"my digital editions.old2" modified 04-4-2016
contains five ebook files but only thrre titles (one ebook in three copies;
oldest 28-mar 21:10, most recent 4-apr) plus the folders "Tags"
"Annotations" "Cloudsync" "Manifest" "Thumbnails"
*"my digital editions.old" * modified 10-4-2016
empty folder
*"my digital editions" * modified 10-4-2016
empty folder
I downlaoaded ADE 4.5 installer on 28-3, time between "old1" and "old2",
and I added the numbers "1" and "2" to "old" only today 10-apr.
So this is what happens and what I see exactly. Meanwhile also later
purchases don't show up in ADE. What to do?

Has you try this steps:
Closed Digital Edition.
Rename The my Digital Edition Folder under your My Documents to My Digital Edition.old.
Open Digital Edition.

Does not work. I own a phone and a tablet, both Android 7.0, and both have Adobe Digital Editions installed. I can only access my synchronised contents via PC.

Opened ADE library today, October 7, 2019 only to find the 433+ books in my library gone. Would really, really like to know why this has occured and how to fix the problem while retrieving my full library.
BTW: I am running Windows 10, tried the renaming of the folder as posted by Nanaky and zilch happens - no books. From the responses below those of us running Win 10 still do not have a solution.

OK folks - no clue what that did - but had the same issue as others - am in windows 11 - and now the books magically appear. Another computer mystery resolved with no explanation/understanding, but I'm old enough not to waste my time fretting - whatever works. Thanks Nanakay!

Hi, I am having the same issue. Open ADE and the library that I can clearly see in my documents folder is not visible. I have been using this program for years and no issues until a few months ago. I am looking for Adobe to supply a permanent solution for this issue, not a work around users need to keep doing every few weeks. As this is the only way many libraries allow you to access their Overdrive ebooks and Adobe has a monopoly in this space I would expect some support for what is clearly their program.

I just want to add my voice to the others. I had a library of over 200 books vanish. Renaming the folders only seemed to make the new books appear, but did not restore the years of previous purchases. I can't even find the original epub files anymore. Not sure what has happened, but I'm not happy with the product.

I spent 3 days trying to get my new kobo to download library books through ADE. Kept on installing and uninstalling the program. Finally followed the suggestion of renaming My digital editions and it now works. Don't know why but thanks.

Same problem. When my Windows 10 crashed and everything had to be reinstalled, the library wouldn't show. I found that I had to delete the original My Digital Edition folder that I had transferred in before ADE would read the My Digital Edition.old folder. Now everything is good again - for the moment at least.
