Digital Editions won't work

I have Windows 8.

I installed Digital Editions and it promptly said "Digital Editions has stopped working" - so I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and the same thing happened 3 times. Why?

I am not currently running any other Adobe products (although I have other products installed).

Any ideas anyone?
