Discontinued support?

I was told by staff at OverDrive (downloadable library book service" that "Adobe appears to have discontinued their support of ADE."  It's true that chat support is no longer available when you select ADE from the contact page; it only suggests the forum.  By choosing another "problem" I access chat support and asked a "technician" who unhelpfully told me that "we support ADE depending on different issues."  When I asked for clarification, the technician was silent for five minutes and I had to discontinue the chat to get to a meeting.

My questions are:

In what ways does Adobe still support ADE and for how long?

In what situations will Adobe not support users having trouble with ADE?

Is there an alternative product for users who currently use ADE?
