Thank you so much! Finally it worked!
FYI, it only worked when I used both DeACSM and DeDRM.

Hi, may I ask if there is any step-by-step guide anywhere to use DeACSM and DeDRM?

For DeDRM there are a lot in Google (I'm not going to give any guide to remove DRM, I don't want the lords of adobe to be mad with me), but is really intuitive, for DeACSM not much, but is way easier, just search acsm in the plugin searcher in calibre, restart calibre, configure the plugin with your adobe account, and load the acsm file to the library. Remember that DeDRM is just needed if the book has the new DRM encryption

Are you using the latest version of Calibre? I had to go back a few versions to make the deDRM plugin work, but that was several years ago and I haven't messed with it since.

It worked for me too! Thanks.

It worked perfectly! Finally got my books I paid for 3 weeks ago. I previously didn't know of this plugin. Setting it up only took a few minutes and now dealing with ACSMs is even faster and easier than before. Thanks, Rodo!

So i tried doing this the first time it happened but apparently i linked the wrong ADE account with my DeACSM plugin. Tried it again with the right ADE account and it worked! Thank you

Yeah, I tried this and it didn't work. The first book I pulled from Google the DRM was removed, and I had an encryption-free copy. The next three books I downloaded the calibre reader puked on them and advised that they had DRM, gave me about 90 lines of error message.
This is annoying, but not fatal. There are other ways to get around the encryption. I used a different app to get that done (non-free). For me, the sticking point was not being able to get the copy of the book in the first place.
I'm not sure it's best practice to use a company's community forum to discuss ways of sidelining the company's app, either. We may all end up in a lock-out if we're not careful. 😞

So, this means it's an Adobe Digital Editions issue and they are not going to fix it.

I must be doing something wrong. Used Calibre and installed DeDRM and DeACSM enabled them and turned Calibre off then restarted. Installed book but when I try to read it it diverts to ADE with same error message
Anyone help?

Did you configure the plugins? In DeACSM, you need to log with the adobe account, and with DeDRM according to the tuto in the web

In the software business, "end of life" or EOL means the software is destined for the dustbin. I can hardly wait to see what's coming down the pike.

OK so if this software is end of life, yet there's no mention of that in all the Adobe sales copy (they dont sell ADE but they do sell the ebook protection tools) that's truly.... messed up

Indeed. The big three in this case -- Google, Adobe, and Amazon -- leave users with no recourse if they arbitrarily decide to leave us in the lurch. There is, or used to be, a clause in the Amazon ToS that the company can, at any time, without warning, and without recourse by the user, remove any book from your Kindle that you previously purchased from them. If you irritate the powers-that-be, you can be locked out of your Amazon account and lose access to all your books. Every time you click that box for accepting the ToS, you agree to give that power to Amazon. Google and Adobe probably have something like that, as well.
My understanding is that Apple is the only company that has bulletproof DRM. The only options to remove it that I have seen require that it be done on a Mac, and the quality of the output is suspect.
This whole business of DRM is a dog's breakfast. I like being able to carry around an entire library in my hand, but I'm not married to it. The death of the book printed on paper is extremely exaggerated.

As long as removing DRM or tampering with DRM enforcing software for any reason, including abandonware or fixing a bugged device, remains a crime under that blasted US millenium act, people need to loudly protest anytime DRM breaks. We need to complain to the publishers, not just the platforms. Technically if the platform the publisher told people to use stops working, they owe us a replacement!
Kindle is worse and Amazon even adds Kindle DRM to books by publishers who actively don't want DRM and at least Google does not do that. I think all others do... 😞

(crude language removed) We have as much impact as a feather blown against the side of an elephant. Adobe doesn't provide support for the app, manifestly does not monitor this forum, and Google just flips back the trivial amount of money we spent and we're forgotten before the send key completes its upward travel.
Consider the absurdity of paying $14 for a digital copy of a book, when that copy costs a fraction of a cent to store and process. Each of us is a ripe fruit on the money tree, there for the picking. Lord knows, they've separated me from plenty of my money. 😕 I think we've reached a fork in the road, and "I took the one less traveled by,/And that has made all the difference." In my pocketbook, at any rate.

The price of a book has never been the paper (or bits), but the writing and editing of it. Though I will not pay "hardcover" prices for an ebook, I either buy the physical book (if i want to be sure I can reread it in 10 years!) or wait until the paperback is out and the ebook is a normal price.
But your main point stands, neither Adobe nor Google care - which is why I said we need to hold the publishers accountable. Because it's not Google adding the encryption, it's the publishers.

I got the DeACSM/DeDRM PlugIns to work - even got to finally update my Calibre application. Thanks to whoever first posted that info!! Now I can uninstall ADE and never have to deal with it again

I put in refund requests for all the books facing this issue. Google has issued refunds for them. I am just going to buy them elsewhere.
It is not a solution...But at least not paying for nothing.
