eReader not authorized to open this book

When I download a book from my public library I can open it in digital editions 4.5 but when I transfer it to my device (kobo) and try to open it on the kobo it says "This book is protected by DRM. Because you previously deauthorized your eReader, you need to re-import the book using Adobe Digital Editions." I tried erasing authorization and setting git up again but it still won't work. Erased and downloaded a new edition of ADE, that didn't work either. Tried different books and libraries but still have problem. Called kobo and after troubleshooting with them they say it as ADE problem. Please please please help! Thank you!

Wow, I have tried everything...and this solution finally worked. I downloaded two additional books, as well as the book I was having problems with. I then moved them all to my Kobo library, with the one I really wanted being transferred in the middle of the batch. I then opened the first random book and it worked fine and I was then finally, after days of trying every solution, able to open the book I really really wanted to read. Thanks!

This thread is old but incase anyone is suffering from the same problem here in January 2023. I have finally figured out a hack to get my Kobo to work.

For the record, I have tried everything: De/Re Authorizing, deleting books, overdrive account vs adobe account, etc. I couldn't use ADE V3 as my Mac is running 64 bit and it's not supported. I thought I was hooped until I came across this in my hours of searching:

1. Download another random book. One you HAVE NOT had on hold (this is important because this seems to effect books on hold more than anything). Just choose something random.
2. Load the random book + the book you want into ADE at the same time. 
3.  Profit!

I don't know if it's a bug with holds or what, but so far this has worked for me for my last 3 books!

This solution has worked for me before, but no more ! The library's website helpo is useless and deauthorizing and reauithorizing the ereader doesn't work either.

I am so glad. Was in the middle of a book and suddenly it said I had to reauthor ADE. But it is impossible.

I did this suggestion together with the suggestion from https://community.adobe.com/t5/digital-editions-discussions/remove-authorisation-adobe-digital-editi... .

I don't know what did the trick, but I also installed en deinstalled evertything en set my KOBO reader back to factory defaults... nothing worked.

I still can't remove or authorize my e-reader but it seems to recognize it and now it works.

Buggy software, ADOBE! Really, I read that lots of people have since years problems with it.

It worked for me too, thank you so much! The book I originally tried to download wasn't on hold or anything, but it wouldn't upload onto my Kobo. But when I tried uploading that book and 1 other (also not on hold book) it worked!

Thank you so much!  I just brought the kobo elispa 2e very frustrated with the not authorizied error, we never hold any of the ebook. what did the trick for me is random adding ebook borrow from the online library when i loaded the 3rd book, then  I can see all 3 ebook no more black cover no more authorized error !!!

OMG thank you for sharing! I had tried everything too and this just worked!
(I'm not sure if it also made a difference, but sharing in case others want to try - I also used right click 'move to device' (or you can press Control 'move to device') rather than dragging the item across to the reader).

Sometimes for me it won't work if the two books are from the same author. I have to go find something completely unrelated

OMG, after 2 hours over the phone with 4 useless script reading agents from Rakuten Kobo,  I finally found this thread/answer and it worked.  I am so pissed right now.  But it WORKS.  I borrowed and transfered 2 books in the eReader at the same time. it worked.  I returned the random book that I didn't want.

It worked for me too! I deleted the book from kobo first, then selected both books and dragged them over to kobo in ADE.  Ejected kobo from computer, opened book on kobo, no error message and book opened!  Thanks!

OMG finally!! after a few nights of searching and trying different solutions, this one finally worked! It's so weird that just add two books, one book that you've never interacted with at the library some how fixes the problem, but thank god. Thank you for sharing your solution, and I hope other people struggling are able to find this!!
