Highlight function not working, no cloud sync?

I'm about to lose my mind. I'm studying a fairly niche subject and my only option is to use DE. I have it installed on both my PC and iPad.

 

The highlighting and notes function are highly unpredictable, sometimes only working on some lines/words and sometimes they don't  work at all. Sometimes when I've exited to the library/restarted the program to try to fix it there are new highlights I never made in the list of highlights when I open the book again.

 

The issues are more frequent on my iPad so I decided to switch back to my PC just now, but the version on my PC contain none of the highlights made on my iPad (I thought the books were synced across units if they're logged into the same account?)

 

I have no idea what to do since the regular customer support don't deal with DE. Is there something I can do about the highlighting issue or is there a way to properly transfer my highlights and notes from one unit to another?
