I cannot authorize my computer for Adobe Digital Editions

I downloaded ADE and try to authorize with my Adobe ID. I keep getting the error message

"incorrect id/password for this e-book supplier"

I have:

checked my Adobe ID / password combination by logging into Adobe & checking main e-mail

changed my Adobe password to letters/numbers only

checked my old laptop with ADE computer authorization / tried to remove the authorization, same error

I keep getting the same error, any suggestion how to solve this?
