Notes, bookmarks etc. suddenly deleted from Adobe Digital Editions 4.5

I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions today. For about seven hours I've been studying a book. I have used the highlighter and bookmarks.Then, suddenly, Adobe Digital Editions won't let me scroll and just keeps on loading. Then it shuts down, and all of my notes, highlights etc. are gone. Can anyone tell me how I get them back?
