"Assertion Failed" error message

Question

I just downloaded & installed Adobe Digital Editions 2.0.67532. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Whenever I run the program I get the following error message:

I've uninstalled and re-downloaded and re-installed but I still get the error. The program will sometimes eventually run properly but it takes several minutes. Often I see the window and the menus but just a field of white inside the window.

While I'm a very experienced computer user I'm not a programmer and have no idea what's up. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

V2.0 is riddled with bugs. Unless you need a new feature, upgrade to the earlier version 1.7.2.

Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
