Random library books crash DE 4.5.1 when it auto opens after downloading the file. How can I fix this as I have a book I have been on a 3 month wait list for twice that I want to read. This is on Windows 10

Already tried:

Reinstalling

Running as administrator

Running in Windows 8.1 mode

Deleting all copies of the books and trying the above

Setting DE as default to open the file type

Renaming the My Digital Editions folder

    Wonderful. Absolutely effing wonderful.

Well you have solved the problem with only some books opening by making it so no books open.

New books being downloaded to ADE 3.0.1 get the error: Error! Check activation

Books that were already on the library have the error:

    An Error Has Been Detected

    Activation Server Error

    Code E_Adept_Internal

And I know what you are about to say, because when I try to return a title it says the computer is not authorized.

When I go to the Help tab the top line "authorize computer" is greyed out and if I click the second Computer Authorization line it says:

    This Computer is already authorized

And then shows my Adobe account information.

    Any more ideas?

    Windows:

        Close all applications.

        Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

        Select the Adept key.

        Choose File > Export.

In the Export Registry File dialog box, select Selected Branch under Export Range. Enter a name and location for the backup registry key, and then click Save.

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

        Close the Registry Editor.

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

    Macintosh:

        quit Adobe Digital Editions.

Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

If you are using 10.7, see https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html

Open Adobe Digital Editions and reauthorize.

Have the issue only with  the one file? If yes hould contact the library to check the file.

No, it is multiple files from two different libraries. Some of which worked fine under the previous version of DE which is why I am here not calling my libraries.

    Thank you for the heko

Anyone else with 4.5.1 issues just dump the POS and put 3.0.1 back and do the above to fix the registry and then redownload all your books
