Transfer old books to new computer

I am trying to transfer many books to a new computer. I have entered my Adobe ID/password into the new computer and its new copy of the ADE software. It responds by saying that "You can only authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that hasn't been previously used to authorize any other computer or mobile devices. Please try again."

But why would I create a new Adobe ID every single time I buy a new computer? This is madness. Please advise.
