I bought a book on Kobo.com but I cannot download it. I'm getting the following error:
"Unable to download. Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_NO_FULFILLMENT_RESULT"
I deauthorized and reauthorized my phone but I still cannot download my book.
What must I do now?

Okay, I tried this but it's way over my understanding of using the command line. I give up.
I guess Adobe has won, I don't know what they have won but certainly not my sympathy.

Bump.
I also deinstalled and reinstalled the app and restarted my phone: still unable to download the book.

Same problem if I try to download my book on my pc windows. Connection failed.
My guess is that Adobe doesn't like my phone connection since my pc is tethered to my phone to connect to the internet.
I will have to ask someone if I can use their wifi.
I've wasted so much time with this!!!

So I tried downloading my book from a WiFi, didn't work.
I deinstalled and reinstalled ADE, didn't work.
Revoked my id, created a new id, didn't work.
I eventually found my book somewhere. Because of this stupid malfunction, I had to download illegally a book I had paid good money for!
I wasted too much time on his, too much energy too. Not mentioning the effect this situation had on my mood.
I'm done with you Adobe.

on my side there seems to be a problem with kobo's ACS server, cloudflare blocks my access to it. if you see "you have been blocked" when you open https://acs4.kobo.com/fulfillment then you likely have the same problem as me.
i somehow got into a support chat on Dec 20th, via https://help.kobo.com/hc/de/requests/new; the support agent "forwarded the problem to the content team", saying i'll get feedback in 24-48h, but i did not get response yet, likely there are delays due to christmas, i'll keep you posted.

Thank you very much for the information! I just tried downloading my book and I'm still getting the same error message.
On the other hand, when I try downloading from Windows 7 on my pc (tethered to my phone internet) I get an error message asking me to make sure I'm connected to the internet.
What's going on there?
I also noticed that ADE for Android got an update but the new version seems to be buggy.

I also still face the probelm, but did not get any feedback from kobo yet.
I got in touch with kobo support again yesterday, maybe this loop will lead to some results.
I'll keep you posted.

Je just had a chat session with Kobo but I don't think it will give much result. They wanted me to give them a list of all the books I couldn't download: 120+ books!
I refused and asked them to forward the problem but I have serious doubts about that.

It seems the "you have been blocked" is unrelated, I just tried downloading my ebook via ADE on my Windows Notebook, there it does work, even though my browser there also shows "you have been blocked" for the ACS URL.
Kobo support says the cannot reproduce, but it is not clear whether they checked Desktop (where i cannot reproduce either) or Android app (where the problem is still there), I have asked for clarification on that.

in case you are open to adventure: libgourou and it's utilities can be built and run on android using termux. (i am working with soutade's version.)

I'm interested, my PC is on Linux. But how could it help with the license servers problem?

i think it's no actual license server issue, rather a strange bug in Digital Editions on Android. (i successfully downloaded a book from kobo using termux for compiling and running libgourou.)
on your phone, do you use stock google android, or a custom rom like lineage os? i am running microg's LineageOS, maybe kobo (unintentionally?) flipped some option that now silently forbids custom roms or something like that. (but that's just a pretty wild guess / conspiracy theory. ^^)
which linux distribution are you on your PC? any experience with building programs from source code using make?
alternatively any experience with podman or docker? there is an image available on docker hub, by bcliang.
i am not sure how happy adobe is about those implementations, so i am a little bit careful to provide too detailed instructions on libgourou specifically.

Thank you for your help. 🙂
I'd rather Adobe fix their bugs rather have to use an alternative. Are they even reading what we write here or do they just leave it to us to fixing things by ourselves?

i think the easiest way then would be to use the docker image.
personally i prefer podman over docker -- to run docker your user needs to be in the docker group which makes your user effectively root, which is insecure. podman runs unprivileged, and it's commands are compatible to docker's.
i recommend to install podman-docker, which installs a redirection of the "docker" command to podman:
sudo apt install podman-docker
there are some minor differences how podman and docker handle "unqualified image names", to make them behave the same run this:
mkdir -p $HOME/.config/containers
echo 'unqualified-search-registries=["docker.io", "quay.io"]' > $HOME/.config/containers/registries.conf
afterwards have a look here: https://github.com/bcliang/docker-libgourou/tree/main#bash-script

anyone ever figure this out? I noticed you can import them to PC you dont actually select kobo as vendor you just select adobe and use your adobe account. I have no desire to read books on my pc though. if i log into my ADE account on android all the books will s ync up but i still get the error when I click to read them sadly. i think it probably is an adobe issue since it works fine on pc. but how do you even get support

I'm having the same problem. The acsm ebooks from kobo work in ADE on my windows PC. But when I try on my android device they sync up to my library but I still get the error. I've tried everything at this point. Anyone found a solution?

The closest I've gotten now is loading them on ADE on my PC, then going to my documents/my digital editions (or whatever they call the folder) and copying the EPUB's it creates, then sending them to my phone and opening them with digital editions. I tried to open them with other ereaders and play books but i guess the DRM is still funky. I dont want to use ADE or KOBO app to read these my app has accessibility options for my vision issues that they dont have. really disappointed. I might try taking those epubs and converting them with caliber and then converting them back to drm free epubs. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying your books at that point. I mean I guess I still paid for it but what a joke. nobody wants to support these issues. not kodo or adobe or the vendor i bought the book package through. nobody cares because they all have their money.

This is still happening, I've re-installed ADE on an old tablet and on a brand new Samsung A9 and eventually got them authorised with new email and password after many tries only to find I couldn't get Kobo DRM books to download, I tried using Adobe Reader site and discovered Kobo is not listed on VendorID list. Adobe chat wasn't much help either directing me to a 2015 post on this forum who's advice I had already tried, without success and informing that hecouldn't help further as ADE was discontinued!
I'm not confident enough to try the suggested patches
So I'm stuck with reading kobo books on-line or trying their awful app again. Oh happy day.

Thank you for confirming my doubts as to ADE fate. I still cannot download my books either but at least I have a Kobo e-reader. These things are expensive but they work far better than their app!
I haven't tried the suggested methods either but given the situration, I'll give them a try.

I've got Pocketbook these days instead of Kobo, but I'm still buying nearly all my books from Kobo. My ADE on my laptop (Windows) is working fine the last 2 years. I only bought a book from Kobo yesterday, downloaded with the computer and opened in ADE, connected with a cable to my eReader and copied the book to the reader. Works. Complicated but it works. The ADE app on my Android shows all my books, but I can't open them. And I can't upload them to my Pocketbook cloud. Strange enough the book I bought from Kobo before is on the cloud and synces nicely. I had this issue with Kobo for years, especially whenever I needed a new eBook-reader and wanted all my books on there. They would have to re-set my licenses for all my books several times till finally I had them all working. But I haven't got the time nor the patience right now to go through all this hussle again.0

This just started happening to me. One day, I'm able to download books from kobo's website to use in ADE. Literally, the next day, I can't download new or old purchases and ADE is giving me the licensing error. This happens for me both with Windows 10 and Android. Kobo customer service has been less than useless. It took explaining the whole thing and everything I've done, even with their people, before I was assured they're escalating the report. I shouldn't have to check two or three different places to manage my ebook collection, but that's what I'm being forced to do at this point.
ADE is working just fine with libby. This is a kobo related problem.

After dealing with kobo on this issue over the last few weeks, kobo has decided this is not their fault and say this is an Adobe issue. Unfortunately, with Adobe unwilling to address the problem, it seems like there is no solution available.
