ADE 4.0 keeps crashing

I installed Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 for my uni course that I started just last month and the program was working fine. I downloaded an ebook from the uni library for an essay I'm writing and now I can't even get the program to open, it just crashes immediately. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, yet am still having the problem. What do I do to fix it?

    Please download the latest ADE 4.0.3.114137

    Download | Adobe Digital Editions

    Some of the crashes have been fixed in this release.

    Please try on new ADE version:

    Thank you for responding, but that didn't fix the problem. The program won't even open its window - I get the icon in my system tray but nothing else opens and as soon as I click on it, it crashes.

    When you try to relaunch ADE after crash, it tries open in the previous state before crash and it will end up in crashing again.

    Can you please try below steps:

    Quit ADE

    Take backup of the "My Digital Editions" folder in "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Documents\" (for Windows) or in  "\Documents\" (for Mac)

    Delete the My Digital Editions folder.

    Launch ADE

    Now add the books one by one from the backup to the newly created folder.
