2018 CC Apps Compatibility with High Sierra - Can I Upgrade?

I've been searching the forums and Google for what seems like weeks trying to make sure that everything is going to be compatible with High Sierra before I pull the trigger and upgrade.  All of the threads are clogged up with people using old version of either CS or CC before the latest app releases.  So the question I and everyone I know wants to know is:

Are the 2018 CC apps that Adobe just released compatible with iOS 10.3 HIGH SIERRA?  Should I Upgrade if I have a CC all apps membership?

My goto apps are: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign & Premiere.  Can I make this happen?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have two machines:

Machine 1)

15" MBP, Mid-2015, 16 GB ram. OS Sierra.

I installed CC 2018 and everything (PP, AE, PS, AI, AU) runs perfectly so far. 2018 is an improvement on 2017.

I suggest update Adobe but not OS. I've used these apps extensively for the last week with no issue.

Machine 2)

15" MBP 2017 (touch bar) 16GB. OS High Sierra.

Also CC 2018. l installed/set up yesterday and haven't had any lingering issues. There was a crash with PP with I started up and some media was missing. It crashed twice, even while relinking media, but now that I've got it running, no problem with PP or AE after 12 hours of work (rotoscoping, editing, filters).

The performance between the two machines. The difference between Sierra & High Sierra isn't meaningful.

The newer is faster due to hardware rendering AE, but for the time being I'd say update Adobe and wait on OS High Sierra.

I have a backup Mid 2012 MBP running 10.13.1 It runs CC2018 apps without problems so far. That said, it's a spare. My main MBP still runs 10.12.6 and probably won't be updated until .2 or .3

This is good advice I got from a Windows tester/user:

Conscientious folks who need critical things to keep working don't just change out a working OS and complain to application makers that their having done so breaks their applications.  They test, they research.  THEN they migrate when it's safe to do so.

That should also apply to Adobe apps. Opt to keep the old version around if you upgrade and keep it as a backup. Sometimes plugins and extensions are slow to update.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO HIGH SIERRA!!!  I cannot get Photoshop CC to work with High Sierra and am losing my mind!  I've been able to edit photos but when I click save, Photoshop crashes and everything is lost. It happens over and over and I've tried with Photoshop CC 2015, 2015.5, and 2018.  I'm at my wits end.

Exact same thing is happening to me. I’m on a 27” 5K retina iMac with the 3T combo drive.

My Setup: I'm running a MacBook Pro 2016 (w/o Touch Bar, 2 USB-C ports, etc.), 16 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD (fully loaded).

I upgraded Adobe Illustrator CC and to High Sierra and my machine completely freezes after about 10 - 20 minutes. No keyboard shortcuts work for force quit the program and the only solution is to nuke the system (hold down the power button).

.. could not be more frustrated by the loss of productivity and glitch b/w Adobe & OS High Sierra (I'm saving my work every 10 seconds and quitting the app every 5 minutes, yet it still happens sometimes).

bmg0920 Have you upgraded your Adobe CC apps to the 2018 versions and removed previous versions? And are you on the latest mac OS (10.13.1)?

Dan,

Yes, it was upgrading to the most recent Adobe CC apps (2018) + Mac OS High Sierra (10.13.1) that introduced this problem for me.

I'm about to roll back my Adobe to CC 2017 to see if that fixes the problem (because you can't roll back High Sierra to Sierra).

I'll keep you posted as to whether this fixes the problem.

Best,

Upgraded 2 days ago and Illustrator CC 2018 is crashing ALL THE TIME. Somehow, I'm being able to open CC 2015.3 - but after a while, it crashes, too.

It's so ridiculous, I have to do changes in a rush, because seems that it crashes after 10 min of use.

No problems with Photoshop. Didn't try InDesign yet.

Haha, maybe the last version he could find illegitimately. I am updating my home system this evening. Not in front of it at the moment but it is a 27" Retina w/ 1 TB SSD (I believe late 2015). Still nervous about with the Fusion boot drive at the office. Will report back if I have any issues with CC. I use the home machine for Steam as well, so I will mention if I have any issues there. If everything goes well I will be updating the other system next week (late 2013 27" 1TB Fusion)

I guess it depends on the upgrade scenario. I just upgraded to High Sierra but before doing so, I upgraded Adobe CC to the latest possible version. Now I'm on High Sierra running the following apps with no issues:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign (launched with interesting error messages but went away after relaunch)
  • Lightroom Classic
  • Premiere Pro
  • XD CC

Edit: I'm on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)

I have the same laptop and after upgrading to High Sierra: Adobe Acrobat Pro issue, resolved after 3 weeks of back and forth with Apple and Adobe; now InDesign won't start, waiting for Adobe support to call back (24-48 hrs) and on a side note, the EFI print drivers for our high-end Xerox won't be up to date for 3-4 weeks and the icons on my dock were not staying in place after restart. That's fixed now with Apple support. So, if you want to go for High Sierra set aside some hours for trouble-shoots make sure your phone has enough battery charge, get you some snacks and learn some deep breathing yoga techniques to keep calm. And may God have mercy on your soul.

I would love to know this as well. Also, are any of you using SSD? I have Fusion drive at work, but SSD at home. Do any of you know if the CC apps are compatible with APFS?

I did some research online earlier and came to the conclusion that with Adobe CC 2018 apps and OS High Sierra 10.13.1 installed there should be no compatibility issues. I updated this morning and have had absolutely no problems running Illustrator, Indesign or Photoshop. I believe as long as you've updated your Adobe apps to the 2018 versions, and your OS to 10.13.1 then you shouldn't experience any issues.

Thanks Dan, but I'm going to give you a few days to work in the programs.  Do us a favor and report back later and let us know if everything is still OK.  We appreciate your help.

So a week on and I've still not experienced any issues and all Adobe CC apps are running smoothly. APFS means that working with files locally is much faster. I have to connect to a windows server for work and have had no problems with this either.

My setup:

MacBook Pro mid 2015 (SSD)

macOS High Seirra version 10.13.1

Adobe CC 2018

Hard to believe it has been a week and no one - not even Adobe - has responded to this question?  I'm not upgrading to High Sierra until I'm sure it won't take down my production machine.  If you're using CC (2018) with High Sierra, please post your experiences.  And Adobe moderators, please help me out here.  The new Mac OS 10.13 offers space saving and other efficiency features I'm ready to take advantage of.  Help.

DON'T DO IT!

I have updated my iMac 27 "Retina to High Sierra, and none of Adobe's programs work properly for me now. Lightroom has trouble loading and Premiere Pro CC 2018 is almost impossible to open. When the program finally opens, there are issues with the audio. The program can not find a valid audio source. In addition, Premiere Pro crashes 9 out of 10 times when importing files or colorgrading.

So again, DO NOT update to High Sierra!

Thank you jlh1989 !!

That‘s the exact machine I have.  im really pissed that Adobe has not addressed these problems.  I feel stuck.  And now that most of there program development is being done in India, I’m not sure there we can count on solutions anytime soon.

I wish an Adobe staffer would comment here and not just send us to “known issues” on an app by app basis.

Their keynote at Adobe Max referenced High Sierra several times, but I’m not even clear anymore what works and what doesn’t.  I’m even afraid to download the 2018 app updates for fear that whatever corrections they did make for HS may screw up what I’ve got.  Worse, there’s no one to talk to about this.

Adobe. Help. Please.  There are 10s if thousands of us waiting for this answer.  All while paying $1,000 per year.   These are the tools we use. This is the main platform the runs your software. PLEASE conduct yourselves accordingly or just give us some hope?   Rant over.
