I‘m a total beginner so I just wanted to ask, what adobe software should I try out if I wanted to experiment with 3D animation/modeling but more so animation? Should I use adobe fuse or adobe dimensions or something completely different?

Animate is the old Flash and that is 2D animation.

I would look into Dimension and After Effects. After Effects comes with a Cinema 4D lite.

For more extended work however, you will need a full blown 3D modeling/animation package, like Maya, 3D Design, Cinema 4D or Blender. 🙂

the only adobe 3d apps are the substance family.

Fuse has been discontinued.

I'm unsure of the current status on Dimension.  I thought it was replaced by Adobe's 3D modeling suite called Substance 3D.

After completion, you can import your Substance assets into other tools like Cinema4D, Blender, etc...

2D Animation Puppets (cartoons) can be created in Adobe Illustrator & imported into Character Animator, Animate or After Effects (motion graphics) app.
