Question

Adobe Creative Cloud license via invitation link illegal?

Hello,

A few months ago I was invited into a Creative Cloud team. I checked the enail if it's a scam or not the real one, but it all was okay.

Then I activated the subscription everything without problems. I didn't need to pay something.

A day ago I got called by Adobe, they said that my Dolby License is illegal and I could get punished with a imprisonment. I wanted to clear this problem, because I just clicked on a invitation link. There was no hint that this could be illegal or there is a risk.

I said how it was, I just clicked on a invitation link and activated the subscription.

They just answered that using illegal licenses is punishable, and they'll get their lawyers on it.

How??

How can I solve this problem?

Thanks for any help.

The email [removed] is at Adobe, but ANYONE could send it as a fake. The address proves nothing, unless you had a conversation.

If it was an email, please carefully delete any personal info, and copy/paste it into a reply. We are not lawyers but would like to understand if Adobe are doing this, or if there is a misunderstanding.

There is a legal dispute between Adobe and Dolby but it is not resolved yet: it may take years. Here is background information about the lawsuit Dolby sues Adobe for dodging license fees • The Register

I would also like to ask, though, who invited you to the team and pay over $600 each year for you. It sounds as if it was a surprise. Was it set up by your company directly for you?

Hi,

I think you're working on Premiere Pro. Adobe Creative Cloud apps now support native Dolby Digital support for Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus sound formats.

I think you have this message because you are using an old version and you need to upgrade to a new version like 2017 or 2018:

>invited into a Creative Cloud team

You need to talk to the person where you work who manages the company's team account

I'll do so. But how can I get punished for this?

Nobody here can give you legal advice.

However, if the invitation you got is legit, there will be no illegal software on your computer (from Adobe).

But, interpreting in between the lines, it seams to me, that you are not quite sure if it is legit. If the software is not properly licensed, you could face legal problems. This has however, nothing to do with a DOLBY license.

The Dolby clash is between Adobe and Dolby. It seams that Dolby suspects Adobe not having declared the complete user numbers and after Adobe decided to continue without Dolby technology, Dolby attacked Adobe on the legal battlefield.

I am the manager of a Creative Cloud for Teams license pool, so I can invite people to CC for teams, if I have spare licenses. The terms don't allow me, however, to sub-license the software. So I can't "sell" licenses outside of my company's environment.

A day ago I got called by Adobe, they said that my Dolby License is illegal and I could get punished with a imprisonment.

Adobe does not call people! At least not of my knowledge. I got however called by scammers claiming they where from Microsoft. So I suppose it's the same scheme. When they got remote access to your computer or when the software you installed is not legit, your computer and your whole home network may be infected with bad software stealing your data.

I checked the enail if it's a scam or not the real one, but it all was okay.

OK. This is my advice: get clear with your "supplier" that you are using properly licensed software. It seams to me that you were not expecting an invitation. And that would be for me a reason not to click on the link.
