I have found the solution here https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2498855, but it's very complicated and only enterprise users can do it.

Whoever packaged the Photoshop installer and put it on Creative Cloud did not read the above link.

Meanwhile, I'm downloading the original Photoshop CC 2018 which is at 19.0 (from here https://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cc-2018-direct-download-links.html), and for now I suggest you should also download it. I don't think it has any problems.

For those who are currently facing Error Code 188 please download and reinstall the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application using the steps listed in "Failed to install" error received when installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app .  Version 4.6.0.384 of the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application was just recently released worldwide.

If you continue to face errors then please update this public forum discussion.  For more information regarding Error 188 see Creative Cloud download and install errors .

I also face exactly the same problem as the OP. Operating system is Windows 8.1 x64 with KB2919355 update (the Universal C Runtime stuff required to run Adobe products).

Let me shed some light on this:

  • The following message is generated by the Photoshop installer:

Exit Code: 188

-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------

- 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 0 warnings(s)

FATAL: Sanity check for installation failed, Current version of HD Client 4.3.0.256 does not support this build with minimum supported version 4.4.0.134

FATAL: Error occured in install product workflow with error code 188 error message

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(any of you know what is HD Client??)

  • This error is thrown at various percentages during the installation, I have seen this error at 1%, 4%, 8%, 12% and 31%.
  • I tried doing a clean install of Photoshop inside an identical virtual machine with only Windows installed, it doesn't work inside the virtual machine either. So clearly this installer has a problem.
  • Reinstalling the CC app using these instructions does not work: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2246014, so I don't think Creative Cloud desktop app 4.5.0.331 is at fault here (also, it is the latest version as of July 4th 2018)
  • This youtube fix doesn't work either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeycQq3-Nn0

I think the HD Client thing is to blame for this bug.

Ideally, what Adobe should do is make a bugfix for this in the next Photoshop update, and also release a standalone patch which fixes the 19.1.5 setup files (so we don't have to download the entire installer all over again).

By the way, can anyone confirm if this also affects the Mac version?

I don't know what is the use of CreativeCloud if itself isn't a creative solution!!!
