Adobe Portfolio: How to optimize cover images for faster loading?

Hey folks,

I am working on a portfolio website, and I'd like the cover photos to be on the big side so they grab attention immediately. When I load my web page, they take a second or two longer than I think is appropriate in the web world today. How can I optimize the cover images on my website for each project so that they load as quick as can be, without sacrificing the quality of the image as it is now?

You need to optimize images if you want them to load quickly.  That entail diminishing the quality to some extent in order to reduce the file size.  If you use Photoshop then try the save for web option, which allows you to check various levels of image optimization so you can pick one that remains acceptable in terms of visual quality but still gives you a more reasonable image file size.

I'm not sure which  moderator thought it  necessary to remove your  URL.  It's obviously not spam because you're asking about Adobe Portfolio.

Optimizing images is numero uno because you don't have access to Portfolio's code or servers.

I don't mean to offend Ned Murphy but Legacy Save for Web in Photoshop CC is woefully outdated and should not be used anymore.   I really do prefer the saving options in File > Export > Export As.  See screenshots.  

I like to keep my project cover images around 100 KB each to reduce page load.   In my example above the total pixels are 810,000.  For this reason, even at 20% Quality, the image is not diminished by much.

Options for saving Metadata and Color Space are further down the same panel.

Hi,

If you want your photographs to load quickly, you need to optimize them. That would mean somewhat lowering the quality in order to make the file smaller. Try the save for web option in Photoshop if you want to check several levels of image optimization and choose one that maintains acceptable visual quality while also giving you a more manageable image file size.
