My new computer is Windows 7.  My Adobe Premier Elelmnts 2.0 is for Windows XP.  Can I get a free upgrade/patch so it will work?

Hi,

Do you receive any error message when you try to install the product?

The current version of Premiere Elements is 10. Elements 2.0 is not tested on or built for newer operating systems and hence there is no patch which will allow the product to install and run smoothly on Windows 7.

The best option here is to upgrade to Premiere Elements 10 which is available at a discounted rate since you already own an older version of the same product.

No error messages popped up on the install but the application freezes when it runs.

I’m pretty sure it was $80 for the upgrade which hardly seems fair since it is billed as a “windows” application and all I did was get a new computer. I should have rights to use it on any windows based system I can without any charge as far as I ‘m concerned...or nominal $10-$15 at worst

Hi,

An application cannot be developed or designed for an operating system that is still not released (Premiere Elements 2.0 was released a long time before Windows 7 was).

Hence every application has a system requirement that has to be fulfilled for it work.

I understand your concern but there is really nothing that can be done to get this version of the product to work on Windows 7 when it is not designed for the same.

No kidding. That’s insulting. You tried turning it around on me. When did I ask that an application be developed on an operating system that hasn’t been released? I didn’t.

It’s charging $80 for the upgrade in this situation that is criminal in my mind. Adobe should want its products to migrate up easily. I already invested in a new computer. I shouldn’t have to pay so much to upgrade all my applications. But Adobe (and companies like Intuit) have consumers over a barrel and take advantage of them this way because we have all these stored projects they want to continue to use. That’s not the case for most of my other applications. They let you migrate up and don’t charge you or charge you a nominal fee (like $10).

And Premier Elements always had trouble burning CD’s and running on Windows XP besides. Didn’t fulfill my expectations in the first place. Very clumsy on our 64 bit platform...and now this

No kidding. That’s why I contacted you. Read the email trail. You guys are so bad and have now insulted me twice. You sound like evasive idiots which I don’t mind saying now that you’ve insulted my intelligence a couple of times already. You keep avoiding the fact that in order to continue using Adobe Premier Elements on Windows 7 I have to upgrade to Version 10 and pay $80. All I did was get a new computer that your program (which I paid handsomely for) doesn’t run on. So I am stuck. $80 for the upgrade is outrageous in my opinion. You shouldn’t charge that much. Nothing or maybe a $10 admin fee, but that’s just me. The product is already pretty expensive and my experience it that it’s buggy besides. But I have all these projects started that I migrated from my old computer and can’t use anymore ...unless I pay you $80.....come on Adobe! Is that how you want to make your money? Really? You should make money on people who want to use your product not people who have to in situations like this

Prostags3 did you receive any error messages at all when trying to install Premeire Elements 2 within Windows 7?  If not my best suggestion would be to try the general troubleshooting steps listed within Troubleshoot installation problems | Photoshop Elements, Premiere Elements | Windows and Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows.

The first document is more designed for later versions of Premiere Elements but would still be worthwhile to run through the steps listed within the document.  The second document is more generic with steps which can be applied for most any issues with Adobe software.  If you have any questions about the steps listed within either document please feel free to respond to this thread.

Returning to Gautham's point regarding Premiere Elements 2.0 running under Windows 7.  We have never tested the application within the Windows 7 environment.  Premiere Elements also has a lot of dependencies from, graphic drivers, codecs which are employed, and even capabilities of the computers processor itself.

The documents I have listed give you the best opportunity to resolve your difficulties if it is possible within Windows 7.  If you do receive an error message please post that to this thread as well as it may give us some additional guidance which we can provide you.

Hey Paul,

After reading your post I was all ready to wait until Premiere Elements goes on sale for $50, but I wanted to give something a quick try first.   If you right click on a shortcut in windows 7 and click on properties you can enable compatibility mode (on the compatibility tab).  I chose to run under compatibility for windows xp sp3 and also checked the run as administrator at the bottom just for kicks.

Now when I run the program from that shortcut it no longer completely locks up when I add media.  I was able to add pictures and video to the timeline and play them so far.   I will keep testing it out.  I know I have to buy a new adobe suite to replace my Studio 8 soon also.  I feel your pain.

Just tried it. It didn’t work on my Dell Opti-Plex (Windows 7) computer. It locked up on my second task (not my first)...so it was marginally but not usefully better.

I will try it on my Dell XPS Studio (Windows 7) computer tonight

Hey. This worked on my XPS Studio Dell Desktop. Thank you. It wasn’t smooth and it’s still a little quirky but I was able to update a small project and burn 2 DVD’s. I’m not sure I can work in this environment on an ongoing basis because there were delays and response time overall was inconsistent, but I at least got what I needed today out of it.

I had to tweak the program a few times using the Windows Compatibility troubleshooter. It doesn’t really tell you what changes it’s making but it keeps making unspecified changes based on answers to broad-based questions about your symptoms until you tell it you are satisfied for the time being with the compatibility settings it has put in place.

Thank you once again. For now I don’t need to spend $80 on an upgrade..but I still may
