Hi,

After you select "All Files" under Save as Type, you have to click on the file name above to change the file extension to .txt from .exe. You should be able to use the backspace key to do that.

What happens when you try to change the filename?

Hi,

When you receive the message saying that the file is infected, does it show the name of the program which is triggering the alert?

Could you also post a screenshot of the message here.

Thanks

This means that you did not use the download link that I posted earlier.

Download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and save it to disk.  The installer file name is AdbeRdr1012_en_US.exe

Next close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.

If you still get the same error, please take a snapshot and post it here in the forum (using the camera icon).

Ivosevci do you have access to another computer?  As much effort and time as you have spent on this it may be simpler to just download on another computer, one which hopefully does not misidentify the reader application as a virus, and then copy to a flash drive and install on your system.

Beyond that have you ever used any other anti-virus product besides Kapersky which might also be installed on your system?

hi jeff,, no offence but I dont think the issue is in downloading ....the error comes up when he is installing the software hence even he download the file on the other system and then copy and paste the installer and run , it will give the same error but there is no harm in trying atleast.

I think we need to completley remove the adobe from the compuer , each and every folder and even the registry entry and then install the adobe reader and in this You can help and guide the steps and location to Ivosevci to delete.

Thanks very much for that.

I used to have Adobe Reader on this com. and it was working find until

about 3-4mnt.ago. Than it stop opening PDF files then I uninstall it and

try to d/load it like last night which it did download and at the end of

d/load a message pop up saying the same thing.

A minute ago I wanted to down load an e mail attachment and message came

up: Image(1).JPG contained a virus and was deleted.

I do have another com. with Adobe Reader on it which I use and could d/load

A/R onto my memory stick and then transf. to my present comp. but it will

not work as Manish said the problem is somewhere else.

And no I have no means to get screen image and post it.

There is mob here in Australia that think could fix the problem by taking

a remote control of the computer but they charge $99 if they fix it. They

suggest they had problems similar to my before.

Much appreciated

Ivosevci when you invoke the installer what error message did you receive?

Reviewing this thread I see the following error messages:

  • "reader contained virus and was deleted" - when you tried to download
  • "Adobe has identified some issues with the current Reader download center. The engineering team is working to address them. Here are temporary workarounds for these known issues" - when you utilized Firefox to attempt to download from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
  • "install_reader10_en_gtbp_mssd_aih.txt contained a virus and was deleted" - was you tried to use the Save As command and attempted to adjust the file extension from exe to txt.

From what I am seeing we have a couple of issues.

First you aren't able to download the install files for reader because some type of virus protection or some program is apparently intercepting and deleting the files.

Second there was an unknown problem with your previous installation of Reader which caused you to remove the copy you had installed and thus triggered the chain of events of you needing to obtain a new copy of Adobe Reader to install.

I also find it interesting that even with Kapersky removed your most recent post states, "Image(1).JPG contained a virus and was deleted." when you attempted to download an e-mail attachment.

Thanks Jeff,

Yes I used save as comand and changed exe to txt made no deference and that

short cut to Adobe that I was given is no any different to the other Adobe

d/loads sites. Now I have Kaspersky running again.

Ok do you know what error you received when you were able to obtain the installer and run it?  If not could you repeat the install process utilizing the USB flash disk process previously suggested.  I suppose it is possible with Kapersky installed it may scan your USB flash disk and attempt to remove the install files as well.  So you may want to remove Kapersky again prior to connecting the USB flash disk.

See if I undarstend correctly you want me to d/load A/R using my other

comp. and save it to my USB and then disable kaspersky and try to install

it on this machine? I doubt it will work but I'll try.

thanks Jeff

If you could please ivosevci it should allow us to identify what your secondary issue is.  Both issues may both be caused by the same root cause but until we discover the error message received during installation it is difficult to determine.

When you downloaded the full installer (AdbeRdr1012_en_US.exe) and received the message ("...contained virus and was deleted"), was that installer file actually deleted?

If so, I suggest to make a backup copy of the installer before you try to install it again.

It would really help if you could post a screenshot of that message; we could possibly identify who/what is issuing that message.

Here are some instructions how to capture a screenshot on Windows: http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows

Having done some research on that message ("...contained virus and was deleted"), I started to suspect that your system may be infected with malware.

Are the virus definitions of your Kaspersky a/v up-to-date?  Can you run a full scan of your system with Kaspersky?

Thanks Pat,

Kaspersky is up to date.

I fallowed Jeff's instruction and used other computer and d/loaded Reader

on USB stick and then install it on this machine.D/load was ok and

installation was ok but when i try to opn. pdf file nothing happens. Now I

just received an e-mail with a Word doc. and tried to open it and got a

message SDPR. Docx contained virus and was deleted.

So it is not only A/Reader that can not be opened but also the Word

attachments.

Something is preventing it to be opened.

Cheers.

regarding the opening of the word or pdf file,,,are you opening up the attachment directly or saving the file first on computer and then opening it.

And now even gets more complicated.

Some of PDF files from 2 years ago that are in my Downloads can be opened

by A/Reader and yet any new ones including Word doc.can not.

A/Reader has now been installed but will not opn. any new PDF files?

Thanks

I actually agree with Pat Willener.  It really sounds like your system has been compromised.  Either that or somehow you are being targetted by quite a bit of virus infected files...

Very good to hear that Adobe Reader was at least able to be installed.  Does Kapersky provide any services around verifying if your system is compromised or not?

You have two different problems now:

  1. Message "...contained virus and was deleted", which I don't think we can help you any further with.  Try a forum like http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21 - ask if anyone knows where that message is coming from, and perhaps give them a link to this topic (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969894).
  2. Adobe Reader does not work.  I suggest that you start a new topic in the Adobe Reader forum.
