Adobe XI Pro won't communicate with new scanner: Error code 156

Installed a new printer/scanner Canon TR4660 and tried to scan with Adobe XI Pro. However I received an error message (dialog box) saying that Adobe couldn't communicate with the scanner - Error code: 156.

The scanner was turned on and I checked that the cable was connected properly. The PC uses Windows 10 however the scanner is supposedly compatible with that version. Is the problem with Windows 10 or could it be my version of Adobe XI Pro (11.0.23)? Is there a simple way to fix this?

Does the Canon software see the scanner?

Good question. Now that I think of it, I don't think the software has loaded properly as there is no link or tab in the Start-up menu. Nor is there a short-cut on the desktop. Will have to look into this. Thank you.

For those interested, I contacted Canon and got them to check my settings, to check that everything was installed. This was the case and I have been able to scan from my PC...I just can't scan from Adobe Professional. Hence I suspect my version of Adobe XI Pro (11.0.23) which is no longer supported, is out of date in this regard and not able to function with the new scanner and its drivers. I shall have to get the latest Adobe Pro. Don't see any other way around it.

@anthony_2779

thanks for the update.

p.s. deactivate (help>deactivate) acrobat xi before uninstalling (which you should do before installing a new version).
