Any help with re-installing SC3 Design Premium with CS4 upgrade? Switching from Vista to Windows 8.1 OS

I know I'm behind but I have to make due with the funds I have. I purchased CS3 Design Premium in 2008 a week before CS4 was released. Adobe sent me a CS4 upgrade for free which I thought was pretty cool of them. I installed it on a Windows Vista system then reinstalled onto another Vista system with no trouble. I purchased a new Windows 8.1 system last week and...well...the reinstall hasn't gone well at all. I think I have to install CS3 then CS4 to get all the goodies if I remember right, but I'm really not sure anymore. The CS3 install tells me it's missing a CS3.dll file and when installing the CS4 upgrade it won't take my CS4 serial # only my CS3. So...all I get on my PC is CS3. I also downloaded the help files for installing and removing old Adobe software but am not sure whether I need it or not or how to use it effectively. It seems that all the installation tools I downloaded are Cs3 and 4 uninstallers? Any suggestions? It's probably way less complicated than I'm making it...Any help or suggestions (other than buy a newer version which is not in the budget yet) would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a bit of a mess. I suggest starting over.

Uninstall CS3 and CS4 and then run the Adobe Cleaner

Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

To install the CS4 upgrade, you do not need to install CS3 at all. You just need your CS3 serial number.

Install the CS4 upgrade (it contains the full program code), enter your CS4 serial number then enter your CS3 serial number when prompted.

Thanks so much John. This had gotten really out of hand and CS3 and 4 are so old that Adobe doesn't even offer help anymore. I have uninstalled Adobe but it didn't get it all of course, so I'll run the CC Cleaner and reinstall. Thanks again, will give it a try and if this doesn't work I'll post back.
