Can I get Windows SURFACE to run Adobe Acrobat from usb?

Guest

I have the Windows SURFACE tablet running Windows RT that I have upgraded to 8.1 but it still isn't opening some (most) PDF files.

Q1. Is it possible to download the Adobe Acrobat files to a usb or micro SD (the Surface has both)?

Q2. how do I make the files run or useable if I can't install the software to the tablet?

Please HELP!

i see the problem. you're trying to open a pdf portfolio, not a single pdf document.

because you have a crippled os you cannot use adobe's reader that can read pdf portfolios.  so, you're stuck using a crippled reader.

there is a way to extract the files in a pdf portfolio and read them in your crippled reader, http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1142183

adobe acrobat is now a program used to create and edit pdf files (and is not free).

adobe reader is used to read pdf files (and is free).

which are you trying to use?

I really just want to be able to open pdf files…. so Adobe reader would be good.

The Adobe Reader Touch App that I have already (from the Windows store) only works for some of the files

The Adobe Reader Touch is set as the default.

I have tried different file sizes from 20KB to 2.4MB and there is no pattern.

I get a screen that shows a large Adobe logo with words beneath that say_

For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later.

Obviously if I can not LOAD Software on to the tablet I am stuck.

Can you explain or provide a solution? Thank you.

It opens up the Adobe Reader Installation page….

I select an Operating System. There is No Windows RT but there is Windows 8.

I choose Language – English.

I choose Version - Reader 11.0.04 English.

It lets me download and I can either RUN or SAVE.

Neither work?? It says this app can’t run on your PC. To find Apps for this PC, open the Windows Store.

That really stinks.. but I am very thankful to have had your help.

Can you tell me how I find out the properties of a PDF so that I can convert the ones I need to on my PC?

if they don't open in your win rt reader, they are portfolios.

i don't know how to determine if a pdf is a portfolio on a non-win rt os.
