I recently purchased a M2 Macbook Air from apple, but am trying to transfer Lightroom 4 from my old 2010 Macbook Pro and the serial number is not being recognized. The Adobe Virtual Assitant suggested my Lightroom may be an "end of life product" and my no longer be supported by Adobe and/or Apple. Is there anything I can do about this? Or get credit towards a newer lightroom that would be compatible with my M2 Macbook?

I have tried deactivating the lightroom on my old device but unfortunately the "help" button does not offer a option to "deactivate" (see attached photo)

That's because the old Lightroom (versions 1-5, pre-Classic) did not include activation until version 6.0 so there is nothing to de-activate on version 4 (2012).

Nevertheless, as @Nancy OShea says, time to subscribe to one of the Cloud Photography Plans on your M2.

Note that there are now two versions of Lightroom: Lightroom (Cloud) and Lightroom Classic (catalog-based).

The catalog-based Lightroom 4 you're used to is now known as Lightroom Classic.

LR 4 is ancient.  Your new computer is lightyears ahead of that software and thus totally incompatible.   You need new software.

Creative Cloud Photography Plan (approx $10/month for 12 months). Includes the following:

  • Photoshop CC and Photoshop on iPad
  • Camera Raw
  • Lightroom on desktop, mobile and the web
  • Lightroom Classic
  • Portfolio website + hosting
  • Adobe Express (free starter plan)
  • Bridge
  • 20 GB cloud storage (upgradable to 1 TB).
  • Free upgrades for paid subscribers

Hope that helps.

New mac need new apps. (Specifically, APPLE blocked all apps older than 2019 when it released Catalina). It needs to be in the budget. It's all part of the Joy Of Mac.

Lightroom 4 will not run on any current Mac models. You will need a subscription to the current CC version.
