I downloaded last night and it gave me Lr3. Today I downloaded the Lr4 disc image and when I go to open the package it gives me this error code
com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1
I tried redownloading, restarting the computer, nothing seems to help.

Carli Morgan are you trying to install the trial or a purchased version of Lightroom 4? Were you able to mount the Lightroom 3 disk image successfully?

I have been running Lightroom for years. I ran 3 immediately before, closed it, gave up on install and ran 3 again after. I am trying to install the trial.

So you had problems installing both Lightroom 3 and 4? For both version I would recommend utilizing the steps listed in Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Mac OS 10.x to resolve your difficulties. Please feel free to respond to this thread if you have any questions abou the steps listed within the document.

@ carli
At what stage of theinstallation did it give you this error message....as soon as you click on the disk image icon or after you follow certain steps of installation.

Disk image opens, when I click on "installer package I get the error message. I have downloaded and deleted 3 times thinking that maybe it was corrupted somehow then.
Some weren't applicable as they refered to actions taken while in the program(run the application while no other applications are running, Run the Adobe application with the Login Items disabled though I did try to install with log in disabled,Troubleshoot ICC profiles,Quit processes that use large amounts of system resources, , the rest had the same result, after the actions were completed I attempted to install the program and recieved the same error message. On the plus side my disk permissions were a mess and it may be my imagination, but the machine seems faster.
I did not attempt
Install or run the Adobe application from within a new user account
Because I just didn't have the time, and frankly I don't want another user account on my computer, just to install/run Lightroom.
I haven't attempted Check for problems with RAM modules or Disconnect peripheral devices.
because it would involve tearing apart my computer, which I am not qualified to do, or moving furniture.

I would highly recommend trying the new user account. It may only be needed for the installation and is a great step to help determine if there are issues with your current user account.
Lets try this step next and then we can prioritize the remaining steps as needed. You can also try booting in safe boot and logging in as root to help ensure their is no permission issues.

Wow. I just googled for the answer. I had looked for system requirements on the product page and couldn't find it. Turns out you have to run SNOW LEOPARD! As a support tech, right after you ask someone to turn the product off, then on, then remove the battery aren't you supposed to ask them if their SYSTEM MEETS THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS? I had to answer my own question. Ironically the question I found answered was on Adobe's forum, which I had searched and that didn't come up and it was not answered by Adobe, but by another user.
Thanks for wasting my day.

Excellent great to hear that you were able to discover the solution. I don't see the version of Mac OS you are using in this thread. What version of Mac OS are you using?

I am running Lion and as I found after you sent me running all over my system it just doesn't work on Lion.
I truly hope this gets reviewed by your superiors. I searched the question before asking, and didn't find the answer. I am not a computer expert, supposedly you guys are. I had even checked the page with the product description and couldn't find system requirements. You further asking me to describe the outcomes of the 28 steps you gave me came through as condescending. I am working out of my home and have small children, so the 5 hours I spent figuring out my own problem were not 5 hours I could afford. If I could bill you for them I would.
I have sunk so much money into Adobe products over the years and I don't expect much from support, but I do exp[ect that you guys would make the system requirements easier to find and I do expect that when an error is as COMMON as the one I asked about the help people who are Adobe employees would ask better questions and find better solutions than the other forum members. You owe me an apology.

Carli I apologize that you have dealt with so much frustration with the install process for Lightroom 4. Lightroom 4 does work on 10.7 however I was actually able to install it myself on Mac OS 10.7.3 yesterday. You can also view the system requirements for Lightroom 4 at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html.
With the release of Lightroom 4 yesterday there is every chance that as it is released to the public new issues maybe identified. We do have a vigorous testing process which we run our software through prior to be released to the public.
At the moment we don't have specific steps for the error which you have indicated. This is why I identified the Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Mac OS 10.x document for steps to complete to resolve your difficulties.
I would still recommend completing the step of creating a new user account and installing the software under that account to see if it resolves your difficulties. Alternately you can log in as a root user account and try the installation there as well. For steps to log in as a root user please see the Apple technical document Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1528.

excuse me, i don't know the names of these things. 10.5.8. I checked the specs. that's the error message for whatever version it is i have. I was basing the name off of those in the forum with the same issue. Glad I could make you better at your job. next time you see that code you can tell them to check their version of os and thank me, since it was my day that saved them all that time.
Looks like Adobe has obsoleted me.

Ok Carli I actually had reported your message thread this morning after you posted that you did not meet the system requirements but received the error message, "com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1." Thank you for providing the version of your operating system.

Hi Whispering_wind,
What version of Mac OSX are you using? Lightroom 4 needs Mac OS X v10.6.8 or above to install.

Will maybe you can upgrade or are you using a PowerPC based processor as well? If that is the case then you will really need to purchase a new computer.

I am having the same problem I am running Mac OS X Version 10.5.8. I assumed that since I was buying an upgrade that it would work since I have had no issues with Lightroom 3. My mistake for not looking closer. It would have been nice if that information was more clear before I downloaded the upgrade. I am not sure if I want to upgrade operating systems as I'm not sure whether my other software will work on the new version. Dilemma
