Question

Constant updates to the Creative Cloud app

Is this the worst written Adobe app or are the 2 – 3 updates a week required to keep all other apps flourishing?

Today the app showed illustrator, InDesign, and photoshop had updates, but again the Creative Cloud had an updates, after which the three apps showed as up-to-date. This happens at least twice a month.

reset the cc desktop app by making sure it's in the foreground, then press:

Win: Ctrl + Alt + R
Mac: Cmd + Opt + R

if that fails, repair per https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-install-stuck.html

if that fails, uninstall using the correct uninstaller from https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html#sa_src=web-messaging and then reinstall using*

if that fails, do a clean cc install carefully following each applicable step:

uninstall every cc app including preferences per https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

then uninstall the cc desktop app, again using the correct uninstaller per https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html#sa_src=web-messaging

clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

check for, and if available, update your os

if windows is your os, repair all ms visual c++ versions that can be repaired (use google if you don't know how to do this)

if windows is your os update your ms visual c++, if it can be updated (use google if you don't know how to do this)

restart your computer (don't skip this)

reinstall the cc desktop app using the "alternative download links" at the bottom of the page at https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-app-download.html

use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials

NOTE: win 11 users that have trouble with the latest win 10 installer often have success with the older win 10 installer.

Its Creative Cloud Desktop that's killing me with updates ~4-5 times a week, and in the middle of my workday. I open Illustrator and Photoshop directly, not through Creative Cloud which fails to update and fails to load.

toggle-off  automatic updates.

you'll be notified when updates are available but can then install at your convenience.

Adobe CC and app updates drive me mad. I live in a low bandwidth environment (Africa). The updates are many gigs in size, so lock up my internet when they happen. I often have to leave my office machine and take a laptop into the field. If I don't remember to prepare my laptop in advance (turn it on hours in advance for updates) then I have backwards compatibility issues: programs can't open files becasue they were saved in a newer version of an app on my office machine (sometimes only a day newer). I can't do the many gigs updates in the field becasue bandwidth is non existent. In some cases Adobe has locked me out becasue it can't connect to the internet to verify my licence.

Oh, and don't get me going on how often an updated app forgets all my workspace settings!

If I deselect automatic updates like someone suggested below, then eventually the versions diverge so much that when I eventually do update, an entirely new version gets installed in parallel, and I need to manually unistall the old version. All this means admin admin admin and I hate it.

I think "rapid" deployment has made Adobe developers lazy. They push frequent minor updates instead of  bundling them into major updates. I also think Adobe CC is actually just a licence policing package disguised with "creative buzz" and "convenience."

when you update to a major version you are given the option of uninstalling the previous version.

Adobe uses up too much of my time. My Creative Cloud app on my work computer seems to need updates weekly. If I don't install the update, I start having problems with app performance. If I do install the update, I lose about a half hour of productivity because I have to quit the apps I'm using and, after the update, relaunch them. (InDesign takes a minimum of 10-15 minutes to quit.) Today I tried not closing my apps and ran the update anway. Result: the whole computer slowed to a crawl until I did the close/relaunch dance. You're too big, Adobe. You're no longer user friendly, just Adobe friendly.

I think adobe exagerate on the updated.
I would think more that is a security update each time, because theres an update Everyday with all the apps clouds

Its annoyiong because sometime, some apps would closed by themself and you say, huh! wtf is going on again.
and you say to yourself, not an update again!! Go see on the cloud and BOOM!! 3 updates.
Very annoying, with lots of third party plugins install as well.

Maybe you need more RAM or to clear some diskspace?

As a  data point, I turned off auto-updates quite a while ago because I wanted to keep Photoshop 2021 from updating. Admittedly, I don't use Photoshop very often, but I've noticed no issues with the un-updated version running despite the lack of updates.

I keep the other Adobe products I use up-to-date manually, and none of them have given me issues if they weren't automatically updated. I dunno. Computers is weird.

I am not really sure what Creative Cloud is.  Adobe provided it automatically with my two subscriptions - Photoshop Elements and Adobe Acrobat.  I don't have the problem that others do as Creative Cloud appears to update automatically and I just get the message that it has updated.  What does worry me is that without a clear and simple explanation from Adobe I am left believing it is very dodgy software.  I have and never have had any other program that requires anything like so frequent updates as Creative Cloud.  Please can one of the Adobe experts answer the simple question of 'Why is Adobe Creative Cloud so different?'

you are not required to update.

in the cc app click file>preferences>notices and disable the notices that you no longer wish to see.

What is the nature of these updates?

about every 2-3 months adobe updates its cc programs usually fixing a few bugs and sometimes adding new features (which often create other bugs).

for specifics on each program, you should google:  <adobe program name and version> "what's new"

for example, for adobe animate, Fixed issues in Animate release (adobe.com)
