Question

Crash while installing CS4 on Windows 7; "Licensing for this product has stopped working."

I did a fresh install of CS4 Design Standard on Windows 7 x64. Observations:

  • A crash occurred during installation. From the logs, it appears to have happened while installing AdobeDesignSuiteStandard4-mul.msi. However, at the end it said installation was successful.
  • When opening InDesign or Illustrator, the message "Licensing for this product has stopped working" appears. (See below for attempted troubleshooting.)
  • When opening Photoshop, it shows EULA and prompts for the serial number. After warning about activation accessing the internet, a crash occurs in amtlib.dll according to the crash report.
  • Acrobat seems to open and function.

Attempted troubleshooting:

I'm at a loss how to proceed. I would appreciate any assistance. Thank you!

Kirkm35114403 if you are continuing to receive the error that the, "Licensing has stopped working," then it is likely the necessary permission changes under step 4 or step 5 were unable to be implemented with the current User account.

I would recommend you try the steps listed in Error: "Licensing has stopped working" | Windows  again but this time in a newly created local administrator account.  You can find complete details on how to set up a new local administrator account at  Adobe troubleshooting: Creating an admin account in Windows.

Thank you for the response. I tried creating a fresh admin user and doing steps 4 & 5, as well as all of the steps under that user. The result is the same.

    Other notes:

    • The first time when running an Adobe program, there is a 2-3 second delay before the error. Afterward, the error is immediate.
    • Even if I select a 30-day trial on install (no serial number), there is the same behavior.
    • This computer had CS2 (removed) and a CC 30-day trial (removed).

Ok Kirkm35114403 then if you have already ran the uninstallers, followed by the CC Cleaner Tool, then I have no additional suggestions.

I would recommend that you back up any critical documents and settings and reinstall Windows 7.  Once reinstalled you can then complete a fresh installation of Creative Suite 4.
