Creative Cloud Desktop 4.7.0.400 is refusing to stay logged in - High Sierra

I have downloaded and installed the latest 2019 versions of Creative Cloud. When I launch Photoshop 2019 and open a file it pops up the "fonts missing" dialogue and shows Typekit is not running. Much to my surprise I see that Creative Cloud Desktop App is not logged in. So I log back in to my account, and my computer gets very slow and unresponsive, but Typekit activates the fonts and then things get back to normal....or do they? Because moments later I notice that the Creative Cloud Desktop icon is greyed out. I look and it's logged out again and Typekit is deactivated. I have played this silly game for over an hour. I even tried downloading the CC Desktop app and reinstalling it, but the problem persists.

Why Adobe? Why? What did you break?
