Creative Cloud keeps changing install location for apps to default

Recently Creative Cloud stopped working correctly and had error message to do repair. I did that. Then none of my installed applications showed as installed, so I reinstalled them on August 17. Then Lightroom Classic did not use my catalog, so I had to open it manually from within LR.  I determined that this was caused by Creative Cloud installing them on the C: drive instead of the L: drive that I use for Adobe apps. Also the "edit in" option for going between LR and Photshop was not working (i.e., the picture did not open up in PS). I uninstalled LR and Photoshop that I had instaled on 8/17. I uninstalled and reinstalled Creative Cloud.  In Creative Cloud I changed the app install location to the L: drive which I use for programs.  Creative Cloud noted that the install location was changed, but when I looked at the preferences, Creative Cloud had changed it back to the default. When I installed LR again, it again installs on my C: drive which is about full. How do I get Creative Cloud to work as it did before and allow a change in preferences to install the apps to a different drive than C:?

uninstall every cc app including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html


then uninstall the cc desktop app, using the correct uninstaller, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html#sa_src=web-mes...


clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

restart your computer (don't skip this)


reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creativecloud.adobe.com/apps/all/desktop?action=install&source=apps&productId=creative-cloud


if you're unable to download the cc desktop app at this stage, use the link at the bottom of the page at https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-app-download.html


use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials after assigning your desired cc program install location.

 

after every cc app update, check that your install location remains what you want.

This did not work.  Still not able to get cc desktop app to keep the changed location for the installation of the apps. It accepts the change, but then installs the apps on the C: drive. Checking the preference again shows that the install location reset itself to "default". I was unable to uninstall the apps like Bridge, LR, PS that I had installed month ago. cc desktop does not show them as installed. Windows shows them installed on my L: drive.  Using the cscleaner tool and selecting the option to uninstall cc apps does not uninstall them. I deleted the files noted in the cleaner tool log summary errors.

 

For example, after I did all of the uninstall, cleaning, and rebooting as you noted, I tried to install Adobe Bridge

I installed the cc desktop app. I changed the install preference location to the programs folder on L: drive.

I used cc desktop to install Adobe Bridge. It installed it on C: I looked at the preference location, and cc desktop app reset this to "default".  I uninstalled Adobe Bridge. Looking at the installed apps on Windows shows that the Adobe Bridge app that I installed months ago was still there. For grins, I tried Windows Uninstall to uninstall this old Bridge install. That starts cc desktop app and says it is uninstalling it, but it doesn't delete it.

 

So, back to my original question with an additional question if the old cc apps on the L: drive need to be uninstalled. How do I do that if cc desktop app does not show them as installed and selecting the cscleaner tool option to uninstall cc apps does not uninstall them? Out of frustration, I tried the cleaner tool several times both before and after the reboot. Attached is the log file.

either, reformat your c drive (to clear all the files you're unable to clear otherwise) > install your os > install the adobe cc app etc.

be patient, it can take quite a while to reach a human

p.s. if you're contacted by anyone (via email or private message), it's much more likely to be a scammer than an adobe representative. ie, double check for an employee badge if contacted in the forums and look for an adobe.com domain in the email address if you click reply to an email. then check again and be very suspicious. any other method of contacting (or offering to contact you) is almost certainly a scam, https://community.adobe.com/t5/using-the-community-discussions/staying-safe-in-the-adobe-support-com....
