Creative cloud old account/ billing issue.

I would like to sign up for a NEW adobe creative cloud (student) subscription.

I have an existing but expired adobe creative cloud subscription that is attached to my account. It was paid for by my previous university,  meaning - because it is expired I CANNOT see how much they paid, and with what frequency.  -- I asked adobe chat - they told me it was prepaid for a year by my university, who were then provided with a redemption code to give to me.

I have tried to create a NEW subscription to adobe creative cloud, that I pay for monthly with the current deal available to students, but I cannot do this because the website tells me I have an existing adobe creative cloud subscription.

I tried to CANCEL the existing subscription, but I cannot until I "update my payment information" - However I do not want to pay for a subscription plan that is for a year. this is not the plan I want.

I'd like to get a new subscription and have the OLD subscription removed from my account.

I have contacted help numerous times, and they do not seem to understand what I am telling them.
