Creative Cloud Update Hangs

Community Beginner ,
Apr 18, 2017 Apr 18, 2017

Hi ,

An update for Creative cloud on my iMac reaches between 25 and 37% and freezes on the app window .

I've tried stopping everything in the Activity Monitor and doing it via the CC installer and it does exactly the same !

Any thoughts as to why or is it a dodgy update ?

Well i finally got it sorted , not quite sure how......

Everytime  i stopped the desktop CC it would spring back into life as soon as i tried to delete one of the apps but it went straight into download , eventually i uninstalled lightroom via the installer (it wouldn't let me do it before!) , oddly when i did uninstall lightroom the CC Desktop updated completely !?!?!?!?!

So then i uninstalled everything , cleaned up with the tool , restarted the computer and reinstalled everything .

quit your cc desktop app.

In the Finder, select the Go menu and choose Go to Folder.

    Enter the following location: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater, not /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater.

Select the 1.0 folder and rename it to ~1.0.

Note: Do not rename the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdater/1.0 folder. Removal of this folder prevents the Adobe updater from detecting updates for your currently installed Adobe software titles.

restart your computer.

GordonH_1961 if you are facing errors with installing the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application then I would recommend completing each of the steps listed in "Failed to install" error received when installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app.  If you have any questions regarding any of the steps listed please update this discussion.

never use time machine with adobe programs.

uninstall everything cc including preferences, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html

then uninstall the cc desktop app, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-creative-cloud-desktop-app.html

clean your computer of cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

restart your computer (don't skip this)

reinstall the cc desktop app, https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.

if you're unable to install the cc desktop app at this stage, use an administrator account (solution 3 here, https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-missing-damaged.html)

use the desktop app to install your cc programs/trials

GordonH_1961 please download and run the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application uninstaller utility available at Uninstall the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application.  This utility not only removes the current installation of the Creative Cloud desktop app but also closes any running Creative Cloud related processes as part of the uninstall process.

Hi Gordon,

i'm glad this worked for you. Unfortunately this solution is not working for everyone.
Because i'm an oldschool person, i like to think that computers have changed their interface but not the way they "think" and work.
One of the things i noticed is that when the screen goes off because of the Power plan, rarely the download keeps continuing correctly, but hangs very often - so i disabled the standby and the hybernate options.
Secondly just don't select all the apps you want to install, just go manually one by one, and click the next to install only when the previous has been installed. This is boring, but i  found more boring to do the process again and again because the installer hangs.

Third use a cable ethernet if you can, wifi is not so cool in this phase

Finally, just don't use the computer while installing. Yes leave it 100% to CCDesktop - this is whise advice - computers have now 8 to 16 Gb of RAM memory, which is enough when not doing critical operations. Installing a software is a critical operation, 1 browser tab can eat up to 300Mb of RAM - i let you do the math.

So here's the solution that worked for me (may sound annoying for many) i'm using a windows 10 pro 1909:

  1. as you said, i uninstalled everything and did a cleanup with the adobe tool.
  2. i rebooted the machine and instead of reinstalling CCDesktop i installed a fresh copy of java runtime (from java.com)
  3. rebooted again
  4. installe the CCdesktop
  5. logged in
  6. installed the apps one by one
  7. set in CCDesktop (the option gear) automatic updates

Just now that i'm writing from my desktop, i'm installing the suite on a laptop besides me - Everything is going so well, app after app.

I hope this piece of advice will help many of you that has my same situation.

Have a great day. Cheers
