CS3 and Windows 8.1 compatibility

As above: After an system update my CS3 doen't run anymore. I suspect this update is a purpose of it. As for now, I cannot run,. re-install or even uninstall CS3 from control panel.

If I try to run CS3 setup file, it takes a long while for preparing installation and then nothing. When I re-run setup it says I must finish the previous installation process.

Any help, i.e. possible patches, appreciated.

Most of the compatibility comments address just Photoshop CS3

On this Adobe site it says "Adobe Photoshop® CS5, CS4, and CS3 were also tested with Windows 8.1 and there are currently no known major issues" Windows 8.1 compatibility FAQs | CC, CS6, Acrobat

The general opinion is that it is not compatible. Not sure if there is an official Adobe report on this.
