Question

CS6 to Creative Cloud

I'm a small, non profit, group user.  I've only been able to keep the CS suites because of the upgrade available to current users to the new suite.  Recent news from the MAX event says that the suites are going away and Adobe is moving to Creative Cloud.  My calculations on the monthly charges, in my eyes, may make this a costlier path than the old upgrade way.  I saw in a mail from Adobe that there was a special offer to CS owners to move to the Creative Cloud at a reduced per month fee, but I'm pretty sure it was for only a year.  Anyone shed some light on these things for me, please?  I want to keep the most current versions of the apps, not sure if I want to be "in the cloud" - may not even be sure what that totally means.  Am I still going to have the apps on my computer/device?  Is an Internet connection mandatory to use these apps?  I would imagine my current CS6 will last me a number of years if I can't go the Creative Cloud route, but I've been a loyal user since the days when PageMaker was from Aldus and I'm feeling that (for the small business/non  profit) the costs of Creative Cloud may be out of my range.

Thoughts, suggestions, advice???

Tom

The cost of the Creative Cloud, after the first year's discount if you can get it, is indeed more than a standard upgrade if you're currently using the Master Collection. If you're on one of the smaller suites it's about double the cost if you were just upgrading each year. I'm a Master Collection user so having to switch over to the CC is going to be an extra $75 per year, which isn't that big of a deal to me, but it's the requirement of constantly having to now be a subscriber until eternity that I'm not pleased about.

Unfortunately the CC is the only way we're going to be able to get new versions of the sofware. While the single app is the cheapest route if you want to use multiple apps you'll just have to go with a full subscription.

Don't be lemmings people.

This is one of the stupidest corporate moves in recent memory.

Everyone needs to get off the cloud, and for people considering it....don't!

They will have no reason but to change this misguided policy eventually when it doesn't work out for them.

This has to be the stupidest thing Adobe has ever done.

Your concern is well founded.  The introductory price for Creative Cloud for current CS6 users is only for the first year.  It then increases to the same rate payable by all other customers.  I too am a CS6 user and share the same concerns you do.

CC is a scam.
