The Creative Cloud direction has been the least user-base considerate motion I think I've seen come from a software company in recent years. At this point, it is beyond clear that Adobe has chosen to focus it's energy on the frivilous task of turning software pirates who will never pay for the software in any case, into paying customers - it is never going to happen, and this chosen focus has led to severe usability issues for Adobe's paying user-base. Graphic designers and those is occupational fields which function under a similar methodology often require air-locked systems, and meticulous backups in the case of crisis situations. Using adobe has become errosive to the business practices of those who use adobe's software as a part of their businesses.

At this point I am actively looking for alternatives to all products offered in the CC line. Cancelled my CC sub already, have found comparable or better CMSs than Muse, and will be reverting my GD practices back to CS6 for PS, Illustrator and InDesign - at least I don't need permission before I install a software I paid for on my own machine.

I have had enough. I am taking my business elsewhere - and I strongly advise you do the same.

What a great answer, I wish I had your fortitude. I am just not going to upgrade anymore. There is too much to like about the current Illustrator and Photoshop programs.

If down the line ie a month way and nothing changes then I too will use the old box sets and leave it at that.

I would be much happier if Adobe found a way of encrypting the downloads so that they could only be used on 2 machines etc and maybe a password unlock should you need to use the backup to load the software on a new computer. There are ways they could do this but choose not to.

Why Direct Download Links Are Needed

Here are a few of the use cases on why offering the same installers in complete form (accessible via direct download) is still going to be very important for many CC customers going forward. These are some of the key reasons that readers tell us again and again why these having these resources is essential:

    1. Users who want to maintain secure backup copies of the offline CC installers should they ever be without strong connectivity (traveling, at a client site, remote locations, etc.) and need to quickly [re]install their products.
    2. Folks who’d like to download the CC software using one computer with a high-speed network, but install it on other, different machine(s) without redownloading. Creative Cloud for Teams customers have access to the CC Packager, but Individuals (the vast majority of users) do not. Many customers do not keep their work computers online.
    3. People who have slow/limited or unreliable connections to the Internet. These users are often in less-developed countries and benefit from the free disc media offered by Adobe containing the Creative Cloud installers. Will these DVDs still be possible and available?
    4. Of course, there are many locations and premises which disallow usage of the CC Desktop App entirely and/or bar all connection to the Internet.
    5. If installer direct links are not available, then there would be no ability for a customer to roll back or roll forward a single version of the application, unless that capability is built into the software itself (which thus far hasn’t happened). Consequently there would be no way to revert or back out a troublesome product update, which does happen from time to time. Throwing away our insurance policy?
    6. Likewise, there would be no way to install an application to a previous version that isn’t the latest release. This is desirable, for example, when working in Premiere Pro where it is not recommended to upgrade in the middle of a large project. If you want to set up a second machine to work on the same .prproj file, then you want the exact same version of the tool as what you already have, not necessarily the latest version. The reality in fast-changing software is that not everyone wants to be (or should be) on the bleeding edge.
    7. Finally, just basic covering our bases and having a viable workaround in place for when it’s necessary or helpful. Software is built by humans, and both are imperfect. Try as we may, there are always going to be cases where the CC Desktop doesn’t work out for some customers (due to bugs, network or configuration issues, etc.), and having a fail-safe backup solution is simply best practices.

Bottom line, any approach that provides fewer options for successfully downloading and installing Adobe software or trials will ultimately impact customers and hurt product sales. We can’t imagine that’s what anybody wants. As one XD poster wrote on the Forums, “Adobe needs to realize that Creative Cloud doesn’t always work and they need to provide their paying customers with alternate paths to their software.”

Very good answer. There are 100's of complainants on the ProDesign forum, Adobe just does not give a toss. It has been some months since I updated all of my Adobe software.

It is also obvious the Adobe meatheads don't give a damn, they are getting the revenue, the rest of us just have to be happy with the last update.

The many disingenuous comments Adobe have made re why it is taking so long to provide the installers is just a delaying tactic, they had them in the past, have they fired those that know how to do it or are they just grinding us down, you go figure
