Error 1001 when updating under macOS 10.11.6

Hallo everybody

A message tells me that the automatic upgrade of desktop Creative Cloud (4.5.0.331) failed (it stopped when it was only 2%).

Error code: 1001

Could it be that my OS X is too old? (10.9.5)

Thanks a lot!

Pablita

Thank you, Jeff and others!

Yesterday, I was able to download the Mac versions of Illustrator and Photoshop that were provided in a link in a previous post (thank you). The installers did install Creative Cloud, and it did try to update the CC app with the 4.5.0.331 version, but that failed. Curiously, instead of an Error Code of 1001, it was an error code 1004, which I don't think that I'd seen before.

Ivor

Ivor, thank you for the update.

For everyone currently affected by Error 1001, while installing the Creative Cloud desktop app, on macOS 10.11.6, please see "Failed to install" error received when installing Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app for an updated version of the Creative Cloud desktop app that will address this error.

Please update this discussion if you have any questions or face additional errors when applying the update.

I am also having the same issue.

I have spent tens of hours trying to get the Adobe CC Desktop app even installed. I finally decided that I need to join in on the conversation, since it appears after much trial and error, there is no way to fix this on the users end and only Adobe can resolve it for us with a Creative Cloud Desktop app update.

Using the latest version of Adobe CC Desktop, when running the installer, it will just flash on the screen for a brief second and then disappear. Nothing happens and it will not install.

I have tried all of the "help" documents, including:

  1. Adobe CC Uninstaller
  2. Adobe CC Cleaner Tool
  3. Manually removing the files from the Adobe Application Support folders in:
    • ~/Library
    • /Library
    • Applications
    • Utilities
  4. Turning off "Passive FTP" in Proxies > Network Settings
  5. Creating a new user account with administrator privileges
  6. Enabling the OSX root user account for installation
  7. Verifying and repairing OSX permissions
  8. Resetting the user ACL permissions (Not the same as repairing permissions. This is done by using recovery drive and entering "resetpassword" in terminal, which allows you to select the user and then "reset ACL permissions"

It still will not install and does the same thing. I even wiped my drive and started with a clean install of OSX (not a time machine restore) - still would not install. I even tried an older version of Adobe CC Desktop which would actually run the installer and not just flash on the screen and disappear like the current version, but because it will automatically update and does not allow you to "opt-out" of automatically updating, it will start to update and always ends up failing at 2% with the "Error 1001."

Installing the applications directly work fine and the programs run, but Adobe CC Desktop does not work, so you cannot update or roll back to earlier versions as needed. I am having the issue on a MacPro with El Capitan 10.11.6. My Macbook Pro running Sierra works fine, so I am thinking it has to do with the Adobe CC Desktop application on 10.11.6.

Please Adobe, figure this out for us and release an updated version of the Creative Cloud Desktop app to remedy this issue.

When I was checking to see if a new version of Creative Cloud Desktop had been released for Mac, it shows the page was last updated on May 3, 2018. I downloaded the installer using the direct download link for Mac, which is version 4.5.0.331, and can confirm that it will not install and just flashes briefly and then disappears.

It was stated previously in this thread by an Adobe Staff member that a new version would be released sometime this week. Can someone confirm what the new version number should be (if it has been released)?

Ryand91436220, the new version of the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application was released for download in post #47 of this discussion.

Thank you, everyone, for the continued updates.  To confirm when installing the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application on macOS 10.11.6 the update does not complete, and Error 1001 occurs.  Is there anyone currently encountering Error 1001 who is not running macOS 10.11.6?

If you are not using macOS 10.11.6 then can you please confirm that you have tried the suggestions already offered in this public forum discussion it would be appreciated.  A summary similar to Ryand91436220's post in message #77 would be helpful if you do not have macOS 10.11.6 installed.

To confirm, this appears to be happening on Mid 2007 iMacs running the maximum OS they can use which is 10.11.6 El Capitan.

A few days ago I did a clean install of my OS when adding in an SSD (wow the iMac is now fast!), this is around the time when the new CC Installer came out - I spent a few hours troubleshooting because I was getting the same issue as others mention of the installer flashing quickly on screen and nothing else, also the 1001 error if using a previous version trying to upgrade itself.

I rang support and was on the phone for 2.25 hours while the support person went through every single possibility using screen sharing all to no avail. We tried everything and a record of the logs was taken for further analysis. I was told things would be escalated with a promise that someone would call me back within 48 hours (they didn't).

Anyhow, I think it's either something Apple did to Mid 2007 iMacs or a problem with the CC installer (v4.5.0.331) not dealing with something those iMacs specifically do.

I say it might be a problem with what Apple have done, because I'm also getting a similar problem with Synergy (keyboard/screen/mouse sharing app) failing to install or run properly on the iMac.

I hope a fix is about to be released, there is absolutely no point in any of us going through all the things that have been suggested, they just don't work.

I agree, Artbox, I was sent a load of options to do by one of the staff members, ended up having to reload everything again from Time Machine. All apps working apart from CC Desktop app as that tried updating again and stuck at 2%.

ianstewart1960 - Mine is a 24" 2007 model as well - would Apple do anything so sneaky as to cripple old hardware?!

I see no real reason Apple can't make the latest OS work with our computers if only they'd include it's specific requirements in the OS build - enforced obsolescence on 11-year old computers?

I confirm what Excuse me Mr says. The present available version for me is 4.5.0.331. And the upgrade to this version is the one that fails and originated the issue.

#Jeff A Wright -- Thank you for your help. I haven't tried all those suggestion because i'm not expert enough and I'm waiting for a friend who will help me. Anyway another friend of mine (same issue) told me he tried all suggestions but it didn't work.

Maybe we'd better wait for the updated App next week and see.

I'm a frenchman. My Mac is an iMac 24" of 2007 (Intel Core 2 Duo) with ElCapitan 10.11.6. Create Cloud Desktop app update fails at 2% Error 1001. I contacted two Adobe technicians by telephone. They gave me very close solutions, but nothing functioned.

For those encountering Error 1001 please see Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(error code: 1001) which have lead to several other individuals resolving this error in the past.

If you have previously relied on Download Creative Cloud desktop app to update the Creative Cloud desktop app then I would recommend reviewing Error downloading or updating Adobe Creative Cloud apps for information on how to resolve network errors.

The version of the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application posted on Download Creative Cloud desktop app is also scheduled to be updated this week if you would prefer to wait.

#Jeff A Wright - Thanks for the info and links but I have already tried all of those suggestions and tips. No indication of any network errors on any of the multiple dates and times I have downloaded the installer. Could you provide a hash to make it easy to determine if there are any errors in the downloaded file.

Otherwise, I guess I'll just lose a week waiting for the updated App to be posted.

AugustFalcon, I would recommend working directly with our support team at Contact Customer Care so that any errors can be resolved.  We have designed the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop application to be the primary means of delivery for Creative Cloud Individual members to receive applications and updates.

For Creative Cloud for Team and Enterprise members, the update will also soon be available within Creative Cloud Packager.

I've tried with a clean Install of OSX 10.11.6 on my Mac. Creative Cloud failed to install again! Even with the previous version of CC desktop. Now it's impossible to install any Adobe application on my computer, and I don't have any clone to use the last projects made with the last version of Premiere Pro! We need a solution guys!!!
Thanks

I have the exact same problem. I encountered Error 1001. After uninstalling the Adobe CC app, together with all my other Adobe CC applications, I can’t reinstall the Adobe CC app at all. Mac OS 10.11.6 on iMac 24inch half 2007. Don’t laugh, because this is my backup Mac; runs perfectly with 4 GB Ram and 250 GB SSD. I’m also using Adobe CC on a Macbook Pro, without this problem (up until now). Come on guys, I need work to get done.

Edit: after setting up a new admin user account, I could install the Adobe CC app again. However, after running this new installation, the same problem with "error 1001" appears.

Thanks @myfriendlewis for your token.

I'm also using CC on a MacBookPro Mid 2009 / El Capitan without issues.

Only my Mac Pro (2007) is affected. It seems that all the computer involved are from 2007
No laughing matter! We need to know and work to get done.
1001 nights is a tale, error 1001 is really a nightmare.
