Error:6 unistalling to reinstall CS5 problems

I updated my OSX and when i was prompted to update java when i opened PS next.

Then photoshop gave me Configuration Error - please uninstall and reinstall the product - Error 6.

But when i attempt to uninstall i get a new dialogue box that says -

"the alias "Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Standard" can't be opened because the original item cant be found.

It gives me the option to Delete alias, fix alias, or ok.

I have no idea what to do now. Anyone dealt with anything similar?

Mattb85319681 do you receive Error 6 when you uninstall Creative Suite 5?  Have you utilized the CC Cleaner Tool available at Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems to remove the current installation?

Mattb85319681 are you receiving Configuration Error: Error 16 or Error 6?  If it is Error 16 then see Configuration error in Adobe Creative Cloud or Adobe Creative Suite  for details on how to resolve the error.  You are welcome to update this discussion if you have any questions regarding the steps listed in the document.

Thank you for the update Mattb85319681.  You will want to begin by running the uninstallers for Creative Suite 5 located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once you have completely removed your current installation you can download a fresh copy and reinstall.

If you need a fresh copy of the installation files they are available at Download Adobe Creative Suite 5 products .

Thanks Jeff, the problem is that I am unable to uninstall the software. So i cant attempt a reinstall.
