I read here:

<http://photographylife.com/adobe-to-provide-creative-suite-2-for-free#more-42755>

that Adobe is offering free downloads of the 2005 software CS2.

The link provided there:<http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cs2_downloads&pid=4485850> does not work.

Any one know answers?  Thank you.

Effective December 13, Adobe disabled the activation server for CS2 products and Acrobat 7 because of a technical glitch. These products were released over 7 years ago and do not run on many modern operating systems. But to ensure that any customers activating those old versions can continue to use their software, we issued a serial number directly to those customers.  While this might be interpreted as Adobe giving away software for free, we did it to help our customers.

I swear Adobe is run by fing APES!

I paid 1800$ for my CS2 production pro and now that you are so fing cheap to validate users serial numbers, anyone that din't go to boyscouts and grilscouts gets all this crap for free and ligitimate serial numbers.

Adobe, you're Rome and eventually you will just crumble from the inside out. This isn't my first experience with your complete idiocy.

And to say this software dosn't run on newer OSs is BS, it all runs fine in Windows 7!

Please, could you then confirm if it is NOT legal to use this software free of charge for either personal or commercial usage such as making sprites for software?

I understand that it was intended for the costumers with those versions, how about the ones that were interested into using  that specific photoshop version without having a license?

Thanks! i searched that thread before but couldnt find anything conclusive, it then redirected me to another thread which contained an answear by a member with the staff badge, i will safely say since he has the staff badge he is quite possibly employed by adobe

Here is his reply:

On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated ...

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don't require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>.

You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number if you have a valid license to the product!

I guess thats pretty much official, Adobe Photoshop CS2 is NOT free after all

Thank you for your help finding this answear, i will inform the others i know, that its indeed not free and redirect them to that link, there i go again to that awfull ms paint for my sprites.

Maybe 1 day they will change it to free who knows.

ms paint?  you must really be good to get worthwhile graphics out of that.  you could go back to school and get student pricing.  i think that would be a better option.

the downloads are for licensed users of cs2 that need to migrate their software.

There are loads of threads on this already.  The answer is it's not true.

However, it's been reported so much that Adobe have got a serious problem if they want to control it.
