How do I create a shortcut on my desktop of the newly installed application?

When I first installed 2 other applications, shortcuts on my desktop automatically appeared.  I downloaded another application and no shortcut.  What do I need to do?

    One way would be to find the executable file in your file manager, right click it and choose Create Shortcut, then drag that shortcut to the desktop.
