I have a Mac. I want to delete everything, and perform a 'clean install' of Lion.
So my copy of CS4 will have been deleted. I think it was bought as an upgrade to CS3 or equivalent.
I have the CS4 disks - but I worry that they won't work if I don't have a previous version of CS4 on my computer. Which I won't have after the 'clean install' of Lion.
Will I be able to download a complete version of CS4 onto my computer without having to pay for it?
Thanks,
- Greg

Adobe doesn't have replacement media for older software versions. To reinstall, you'll need the installation discs and your original Creative Suite serial number (so in your case, the serial number for CS3).

Thanks Jeri. I don't have the original disks for CS3 or even the serial number. It was so many years ago.
So what can I do?
I can't afford to buy the full versions of CS5. But what if I upgraded from CS4? Would I then be able to re-install CS5 on my computer after the 'clean install' - or would it still ask me for the original CS3 number?
Thanks,
- Greg

You will be required to enter your CS3 serial number when upgrading. If you had registered your product, you will be able to locate your serial number. See this doc for more info (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/152/tn_15290.html#main_I_lost_my_serial_number). If a customer support person is available for chat, a window like the one in the image pops up using which you can chat with the person.

Hi - Ive found a serial number for 'Studio' version 7 - would that work? It was purchased back in 2006.
Thanks,
- Greg

I don't think so. See this page for more info. (http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/upgradeinfo.html). It looks like the minimum version required for an upgrade to CS5 is CS2.

Thanks. It says upgrading from CS4 Web Premium is $649. But do I OWN CS4 if it itself was an upgrade from a previous version. That's what I'm confused about. There is no upgrade from Studio 7.
Thanks,
- Greg

If you upgraded to CS4 and registered it, I think you should be able to upgrade to CS5. Just to be sure, I will ask someone from customer support to confirm.

Thanks. The big question is - when entering the license key for CS5 - will it ask for the CS3 license number, or the CS4 license number. I have the latter, but not the former.
Thanks,
- Greg

If you have the CS4 number, it should work. To be sure, I have passed your question to the concerned people. You should have answer in the next 12 hours.

Hi Greg,
If you have the serial key for CS4, you will be able to upgrade to CS5 or now CS5.5 without any issues. For purchasing the upgrade version, you can go to the above link provided by Preran
(http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/upgradeinfo.html) and get the creative suite of your choice.
Cheers!!
