Can I install my STUDENT EDITION of CS6 on my new desktop? Does the "2 platforms for single user license" apply for student version or do I have to uninstall it from laptop first?

You can install Adobe CS6 suite Student edition on 2 machines, but you cannot use the product on both the machines, at the same time.

If you want to move your CS6 suite from one machine to another, then please make sure you follow these steps in the below mentioned order

    - Deactivate the Product - (Click Help - Deactivate)

    - Uninstall the product

    - Install the product on the new machine. Use your Serial number and Installation media (Disc or Downloaded package)  to install the product.

if you face any issues in doing this, please let me know.

i uninstalled it on my old laptop already i didn't not deactivate it , there was no option to do so.  i try and reinstall it i put my serial # and I get this message

Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.

“Install” is on the disk image “DesignStandard_CS5_LS1.dmg”. Safari downloaded this disk image today at 7:02 AM from trials3.adobe.com. “Install” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

I am having the same issue.  Except as I am no longer a student at my university I cannot download it from the same place I downloaded it from before.  All I have is my CS6 version on my old computer and i need it on my new computer.

Just to make sure.. if I install on new desktop and still leave it on laptop (as emergency backup) , I can use it on both (i.e. travelling w laptop) but not at same time?   Or do I need to "deactivate" on the laptop first, before installing on new desktop?  Sorry.... I am not real tech savvy.  thnx

No deactivaton necessary. Just one note: You can only use the program on one OS platform. With the Creative Cloud one could be Mac and the other Windows.
