How to restore CS4?

Lost my hard drive... installed new, restored software from backup drive. CS4 won't launch. Get 'Error 6'

Any ideas?

You need to install the software correctly. No way to just restore it from a backup. Without the proper registry entries and install information some things just will not work, most critically of course the licensing service.

Just to add to Mylenium's statement if you are having problems installing it might be worthwhile to start from the beginning by reinstalling your OS and then only restoring your documents.  You can then run the installation from the installation media.  Some of the most difficult issues I have dealt with for installation are caused by trying to restore the software from a backup.
