I REALLY want to install Creative Cloud on an external drive with all the apps, (CCE Plan)

I can't seem to find a way to install Creative Cloud itself on an external drive, and when I try to change the default location for installing apps, I get a notice that "UNABLE TO INSTALL AT THIS LOCATION." Why? I see so many posts talking about how this can be done but why not on my Mac Sonoma system wtih an external drive?

I think the CC Desktop app must be installed on the System drive.

Other apps can be installed on other drives.

It has something to do with the drive formatting but I can't remember what. The bass app needs to be on your startup disk but the individual programs other than that or bad can be on remote desk I had it this way before but can't seem to get it back now

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

what's the path to the directory you're trying to use and what's the format of the hard drive?

Hi thanks for replying. The path is /Volumes/LargeFiles

And I have tried formatting it as

- Mac OS extended journaled
- Mac OS extended journaled case sensitive
- APFS
- exFAT

This is a partitioned drive in three sections. It's a 5 TB drive with half
of it committed to other apps and things, a quarter of it committed to the
time machine, and a quarter committed to Adobe apps.

I did have this working previously with journal OS but I had to wipe my
computer and start over because of some problems and now I'm unable to get
the option to have the apps installed in a different location and keep
getting the error that "Adobe apps can't be installed this in this
location" from Adobe when I try to select that directory.

Thanks

Hi @maxrocketmusic,

Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately, installing Creative Cloud apps on an external drive is not supported. We recommend installing the apps on the internal drive of your Mac for optimal performance and compatibility.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with the installation, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Regards,
^AN

Hi @sprinklr-integration-user then why are we able to change the location in the Creative Cloud app but not to an external drive. These apps are HUGE. This really needs to be an option. For things like Premier, I get it, having such large files with latency would be a huge ordeal, but with most photoshop or acrobat operations, they're relatively tiny. How can we get this changed? I know you don't recommend it but this is real-world use cases. Thanks
