Illustrator overrunning on Macbook Pro

I have creative cloud and I've had it for about 3 years now. Ever since October or November when I opened Illustrator it ran my macbook pro to the point where the fans were running loud and I was afraid of overrunning my laptop. My laptop is about only 3 years old too- just got it fixed for a RAM issue. If I use the activity monitor on my laptop to see what's running the hardest it's Illustrator, ranking up about 400% CPU; this only happens when I make a blank white document that is 7 in x 7 in. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, didn't do anything. Was wondering if anyone out there has had this issue and how to solve it. Thanks!
