license issue with LR5 installed before subscribing to CC

Community Beginner ,
Apr 17, 2015 Apr 17, 2015

Hi,

I purchased a LR4 license in april 2012.

In august 2012, I subscribed to full CC -and I still have an active subscribtion.

My MacBook has has an LR5 trial version installed.

I I can no more use it, as LR asks for serial number.

So I reinstalled a brand new copy of LR from Creative Cloud manager. I was expecting my active subscription to give me the rights to use it.

But my mac still seems to consider it as a standalone trial version, and asks for a serial #.

What should I try ?

Thanks.

Hi Renaud,

First make sure you had trashed Lightroom from Applications folder and then reinstalled it via Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app using same email ID using which you had purchased subscription.

Please check with your Hosts file for Adobe entries, if present please remove it and try to activate Lightroom 5.

Note:

Finder>Go>Go to Folder:   inside Go to Folder textbox type in as     /etc

Under Etc folder you can locate Hosts file.

Copy the Hosts file to  Desktop.

Double click on it , it will open Hosts file with Text Edit , if present delete all Adobe entries. then close TextEdit(Hosts).

Put it back to Etc folder, select Authenticate and Replace option when prompted.

Then launch Lightroom 5.7.1 application and check.

OK, this is what I did,

Please check with your Hosts file for Adobe entries, if present please remove it and try to activate Lightroom 5.

Note:

Finder>Go>Go to Folder:   inside Go to Folder textbox type in as     /etc

Under Etc folder you can locate Hosts file.

Put it back to Etc folder, select Authenticate and Replace option when prompted.

Then launch Lightroom 5.7.1 application and check.

All I found in this file is the following :

##

# Host Database

#

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.

##

127.0.0.1 localhost

255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

::1             localhost

don't know what this means, but I didn't do anything, as there is no adobe there.

3)Then navigate to Application Support>Adobe>OOBE. Open OOBE folder and trash opm.db file.

Then launch Creative Cloud Desktop application and sign in with Adobe ID using which you had purchased subscription .

Click on Apps tab and check.

If the Lightroom 5 is still listed as Trial under Apps list.

Open Applications folder on Mac and locate Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1 and double click on it and try to launch.

Let me know if the application launches fine without any trial pop up .

Or whether you are getting Trial pop up message ?

I see that even though you re-installed Lightroom application , it has been reverted as trial.

You can follow below steps:

1)Lightroom does not have uninstaller file for Mac computer installation.  Simply Trash the Lightroom application from Applications folder.

2)Trash Adobe Creative Cloud , Adobe Application Manager folders from Utilities ,  ( No need to run uninstaller file for Creative Cloud).

3)

a) Right click on Finder icon and  select "Go-To Folder " option.
  b) You will get a text box, type-in below command and then hit 'Return' key.( Do not miss ~ symbol)

~/library

c)Then navigate to Application Support>Adobe.

d)Open Adobe folder and trash folders named AAMUpdater and OOBE.

4)

a) Right click on Finder icon and  select "Go-To" Folder option.
  b) You will get a text box, type-in below command and then hit 'Return' key.

/library

c)Then navigate to Application Support>Adobe.

d)Open Adobe folder and trash folders named AAMUpdater ,Adobe Application Manager and OOBE.

[Note: Mac computers has 2 libraries : ~/library and /library

5)

Click on the below link and download Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner tool and run the same:

Select the option Adobe Application manager for Mac OS X and then click on Clean up selected :

https://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems/_jc...

Are you still getting blue pop up screen while launching Lightroom application?

Have you installed any other version Adobe applications on your computer  like CS 6 , CS 5 ..Cs 3 ?

LATEST

Renaud,

We had tried with most of the troubleshooting steps.

However , if you had not installed any other applications other than CC version apps,

After performing below steps, when you launch any installed Adobe apps , it will ask to activate again.

If you had installed any older version Apps like CS 4 , CS 3 , CS 5 , make sure that you have serial number with you.

You may try with below steps :

OR

Close all Adobe applications and quit Creative Cloud desktop application.

1) Right click on Finder icon and  select "Go-To" Folder option.
  2) You will get a text box, type-in below command and then hit 'Return' key.

/library

3)Then navigate to Application Support>Adobe.

Open Adobe folder and locate folder named SLCache and trash all contents present in it.

Also under same Adobe folder, locate folder named SLStore and rename it to SLStore-old.

Then launch Creative Cloud desktop application and sign in with Adobe ID and Password, if already signed in , Sign out and sign in again.

Then launch Lightroom application and try activating.

If you still face same issuer , the only option left are removing all Adobe apps and remove Adobe folders from both ~/library and /library.

There by performing complete removal and re installation process.

Then install Creative Cloud and install Lightroom 5.7.1 and check.

If you still face same issue , better to contact Adobe Customer Support via Live Chat.  and confirm if the subscription is active .

Also you can contact Adobe Technical Support via same Live Chat , they will check with the issue further , also they can even remote access your computer and check on the issue.

I wish you all the best.

There is an recent issue being noticed with Creative Cloud App, even though the Apps are activated and launching fine without any trial pop up, it will be listed as trial app under Creative Cloud application Apps list.

Launch the Lightroom application and check.
